The following were reports submitted by Eamonn O'Neill to the Imokilly People Newspaper during his term as club PRO from 1999 to 2001.

Jan - Mar '99

Annual General Meeting 1999
There was a good attendance at the A.G.M. of the Fr. O’ Neills Juvenile Club on the 12th. Of January last. Chairman Liam Murphy welcomed everybody and commented on the years activities, highlighted by the U-12’s victory in football. He also spoke of the club’s disappointment when the U-14 team were graded out of their depth, suffering heavy defeats in all their games. This, he stated, must not a very enjoyable experience for these players.
Our secretary, Maurice Conway, gave his usual comprehensive report on club activities, both on and off the field. Paul Harrington, treasurer, returned a healthy balance (and he was still not happy). Comments on the reports were followed by the election of officers for the upcoming year, which resulted as follows:

President: Fr. Finbarr Buckley C.C., Vice-Presidents: Dick Lane, Haulie Donnelly, Eamonn O’ Neill, Michael Holland, Tim O’ Mahony. Chairman: Liam Murphy. Vice-Chairman: Tom Wall. Secretary: Maurice Conway. Treasurer: Paul Harrington. PRO: Eamonn O' Neill.
Committee: (Consists of members of the different committees or their nominees)

Under-10: Bobby Lee, Billy Pomphrett, Seamus Joyce, Seamus Cronin, Thomas Harrington, Dan Griffen.
Under-12: Noel O’ Driscoll, John Donnelly, Paul Harrington, Donal Broderick, Neilus Ahern, Haulie O’ Brien.
Under-14: Tom Wall, Willie Hogan, Gerard Lee.
Under-16: Liam Murphy, John Barry, Fr. Dan Coakley P.P. , T.J. O’ Connell, Michael Quinn, Jerh Holland.

The Chairman, Liam Murphy, concluded the business of the meeting, by thanking all the new members for offering their assistance and wished them well for the coming year.

Victory Supper Social
The club has this year organised a “Supper Social” to be held in Garryvoe Hotel, to celebrate the victory of the U-12 football team and to present them with their richly deserved medals. Cork star Brian Corcoran will attend to present the medals. This night is intended to be a family night for the young and not so young. Tickets are on sale in the shops in both villages and already it seems that we will have a bumper crowd, so if you still require tickets, you better hurry. Tickets are priced at £7 (adult) and £3.50 (juvenile).
Music on the night will be provided by “FRONTIER”.

“Tribute to a former scribe”.
The order has changed and last years PRO has been “promoted!” to greener pastures. The many G.A.A. followers within the parish will miss him (and a few from outside the parish as well!). Queues, similar to those seen in Russia, were a common occurrence every Thursday morning outside the newsagents, eagerly awaiting the latest edition. Many a morning, these queues stretched to the “middle of the road”. Why ? Because, he was to “The Imokilly People” what Diarmuid O’ Flynn and Jonathan Philben Bowman are to other newspapers and it’s many the man who changed his glasses (not the half-pint glasses) so that they were able to read “between the lines” of carefully coded messages. “I report it as I see it”, was the battle-cry often attributed to these rare scribes. He made controversial points (and half-pints), that was the way it happened. But we all wait, for that day in the future, when the Prodigal Pro will return. On that day the fattened calf will be carried down the “middle of the road” (or a bus might be organised) and the half-pints will flow once again. Not having been blessed with the same vocab, wit and cutting-edge myself, Thursdays, for our G.A.A. followers will become just like any normal day. We await the words “I WILL BE BACK”.

Committee Meeting
Our first committee meeting of the year will be held in Ballymacoda Hall on Thurs. 21st. Jan. at 9p.m. All committee members requested to attend.

Best Wishes
To our secretary, Maurice, after his recent visit to the surgeon. May your “balata’s” be flying high in the not too distant future.

Supper Social.
Tomorrow night is the big night on the social calendar, with our supper social being held in Garryvoe Hotel. The main reason for the social is the presentation of medals to the U-12 team, but it is also a social night for our club and could become an annual event, depending on the support received on this occasion. Some tickets may still remain for both adults and juveniles, so if you wish to buy tickets at this stage, contact Tom Wall as soon as possible.
As mentioned last week, Brian Corcoran will present the medals. We are delighted that Brian has agreed to attend as he is idolised by so many of the players in this group and he sets such a good example for all juvenile players. Among the other presentations on the night will be the “Man of the Match” awards for the year, kindly sponsored by Broderick’s Coals. These awards were earned by players over the course of the U-12 football campaign.
Music for the night will be provided by “Frontier”, so lets hope a good night will be had by all who attend.

Championship Draws.
The championship draws, usually heralds the beginning of the new playing year for all age groups. The draws in both junior codes, announced last Wednesday week, pitted us against Carrigtwohill in hurling and Glanmire in football. The juvenile club would like to wish and mentors of both groups the best of luck in the season ahead.

Successful Supper Social:
Last Friday night was D-night on our social calendar for the year past. What a night. For the past number of years the club has tried to organise a fitting function on the occasion of medal presentations to victorious teams. Far too often these functions turned out to be drab affairs, with little support. But, on Friday night last the tables were turned, hopefully for good, with an attendance of over 250 patrons, both juveniles and adults in attendance. Much of the credit for this must go to Tom Wall, who believed that it could be done and almost single-handedly sold tickets at a rate that would put Jim Aiken to shame. Credit must also go to the businesses and committee members who also assisted in the sale of these tickets.
As mentioned previously, this was a most enjoyable evening, which went without a hitch. “Frontier” served up a mega performance for their enthusiastic following. Garryvoe Hotel came up trumps again with an excellent meal and accommodating staff. Brian Corcoran, as expected, turned out to be the perfect guest, with his genial manner and excellent words of wisdom for the young players.
This occasion cannot be left pass without the committee expressing gratitude to different individuals and groups. Thanks goes to all those who donated spot-prizes for the raffle, to Eddie O’ Riordan and the Imokilly People, to our ticket-sellers on the night and finally to all the patrons who supported us on the night with their presence.
On a personal note, well done to “Pecker” O’ Connell, “Box or Strings” Hogan and Mick Mackey himself, for their marvellous rendition of “Sean South from Garryowen” at the post-social debriefing. (Come on Ahane !)

Meetings:
The East Cork Bord na nOg meets on Tuesday night next (9/2) and a club committee meeting has been provisionally fixed for the following Thursday night in Ladysbridge Hall at 9.30p.m. Committee members are asked to check the parish newsletter for a confirmed date.

Championship Draws.
The championship draws for Bord na nÓg were made on Tuesday night last in Midleton. In Under-16 hurling we were drawn against Bride Rovers. We were drawn against the same opponents in the football competition. In U-14 hurling both Russell Rovers and O' Neills got a bye to the semi-final stages where they will be in opposition to each other. In the football competition, we will meet Dungourney, in a repeat of the U-12 final of two years previous when Dungourney emerged victorious.

Under-16 Football League.
This campaign did not get off to the best of starts last Saturday, where confusion about the time of the match, resulted in Dungourney being awarded the match. Both teams played a match at the later time and the selectors were quite happy with the performance served up.

Féile na Peile (U-14 Football).
Fr O' Neills travelled to Banteer on Sunday last, to play Rockchapel in the 1st Rd of this competition. Even though the lads played well, we were denied victory, by a far bigger and stronger team. Final score: O' Neills 2-4 Rockchapel 0-13.

Here are two more: (a) Name the four sets of brothers who won 'B' grade hurling medals in 1979 ? (b) Who captained the U-21 hurling team to victory in 1983

Fr O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes 22/4
Under-14 The football team had their second match of this years campaign, with the visit of Aghada to Aghavine on Wednesday evening last. With the defeat to Dungourney the previous week, the lads were very anxious to get back on track, but Aghada's ability to shoot long-range points was the decisive factor. Final score: Aghada 1-11, Fr O' Neills 2-5.Scores: Mark Moloney 1-1, Kieran Wall 1-1, Eoin McCarthy 0-2,
On the following Wednesday we made the trip to neighbours, Glenbower Rvs. The night was not very suitable to football with a gale blowing throughout the match and scores were hard to come by, for both sides. A far physically stronger Glenbower teamwere the victors on a scoreline of 2-9 to 3-1, despite an excellent display from Robert Murphy at centre-back.
Panel: B.Tambling, D Colbert, M O' Shea, B Sloane, J Walsh, Ml Barry, R Murphy, K Ahern, J T Gould, G O' Leary, K Wall, S Irwin, I Hennessy E Griffin, E McCarthy, M Moloney, Ml Griffin, P Butler, O Hayes.
The next game for the U-14's is against to Castlelyons at a time yet to be fixed, followed by an away fixture to St. Catherines on Wed 28th , in Ballynoe @ 7.15 p.m.

Under-16 The U-16's had their second outing of the campaign on Saturday last, when they travelled to Rathcormac to take on Bride Rvs. While the score may suggest an easy win, it was only achieved by the high work rate and excellent support play of the whole team. In the 1st half we had goals from M Moloney and Robt Murphy, followed by a brace of excellent points from D Ryan, E O' Brien and J.T. Gould to leave the score at 3-6 to 1-3. Having played with the wind in the opening half, it was expected that the Rovers would come thundering back in the 2nd half. They duly obliged by scoring a goal early on, but some good defending by the O' Shea brothers, ably assisted by Dan Ryan and Trevor Dineen kept the expected onslaught at bay. Brian O' Connell did some great work between the posts and with Mark Hodnett on top-form up front, we proceeded to build up an unassailable lead in the final quarter to lead at the final whistle on a score of 6-15 to 2-6.
Well done to Senor Jerh on his fine refereeing display.
Team: B O' Connell, M O' Shea, N O' Shea, Ml Barry, K Aherne, D Ryan (0-1), J Barry, T Dineen (1-1), J T Gould (0-1), E O' Brien (0-6), M Hodnett (2-2), C O' Regan, R Murphy (1-2), M Moloney (2-2), J P Quinn.
On Monday 12th Lisgoold were the visitors to Aghavine for the next round of the football league. A strong wind gave the indication that this was going to be "a game of two halves". O' Neills played into the face of the wind in the 1st-half and strong play throughout the field gave us an interval lead of 1-6 to 1-2, with M Hodnett, B McCarthy and E O' Brien excelling. The team never sat back in the 2nd half and a goal by J P Quinn early in the half settled the team who went on to win, on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-4.
Thanks to Aidan Swyane who refereed the game.
Team: B Tambling, M O' Shea, N O' Shea, B O' Connell, J T Gould, M Hodnett, P Hegarty, T Dineen(0-3), B McCarthy(0-2), L O' Connell, E O' Brien(0-4), C O' Regan, R Murphy, M Moloney(2-2), J P Quinn(1-0). Subs: P Swyane and G O' Brien.

Ceist agam Ort:

It's good to see that Aidan finds the questions so easy (despite not giving the answers), maybe the questions are easy but the answers are difficult. However he has promised a free burger with chips to the first person up to his chipper on next Friday night with the answer to the following question:-
In what year and who were the opposition when four brothers play for the Fr. O' Neills junior team ? ( "Hopper", Joe and Luke may not enter).
If anyone has further questions, we'd be glad to ask them.

Fr. O' Neills G.A.A. Golf Society:

The results of the first outing of the year which took place at Waterock Golf Club on Mar. 21st. are as follows:-
Overall: 1st Val Duhig 37pts. 2nd Ger Donnelly 37pts.
Best Gross: John Hayes.
Cat 1 (0-14): 1st J.J.Joyce 32pts, 2nd Ger Lee 31pts, 3rd Ml Brett 31pts, 4th John Cronin 30pts.
Cat 2 (15-): 1st Tom O' Donoghue 36pts, 2nd Hugo O' Leary 33pts, 3rd Dan Griffin 33pts, 4th Denis McCarthy 32pts.
Cat 3 (Non-Affiliated): 1st Thomas Harrington 33pts, 2nd Seamus Cronin 32pts, 3rd Johnny Finn 31pts, 4th John Gallagher 29pts.

The committee wishes to thank Eileen and Dave at Daly's Bar, Ballymacoda for their most generous sponsorship of the event.
Well done to Val on his excellent victory. We can now exclusively reveal his secret of success. During a short vacation in Cork early last year, Val decided to dispense with his normal reading material of Jeffrey Archer and instead engrossed himself in a little red book entitled "The Gentleman's book of Golf Tips" by Willie W. On Paddy's Day, Val finally finished this 400 page document and then guess what happened four days later? In an interview this week, Val stated that he now intended to make a start on a new "groundbreaking" publication, namely "How to stay calm in the bunker, without a Hamlet" by Stan. The official launch of this book takes place in Ballykisteen on May 8th.

The next outing is the famous "Trip to Tipp" which takes place on Saturday May 8th . This will be a four player scramble ( in more ways than one) and deposits of £10 are now being taken by any committee member. Rumour has it that we should arrive home by Christmas Eve, however the committee would like to disassociate itself from this malicious gossip, they feel Halloween is a more likely return date.

Fr O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes 1/5/99

Under-12:

It is good to see this team carrying on from where their predecessors left of, with two fine wins in the league. The team defeated Glenbower in their first game, with the game against Cloyne called off due to bad weather. Last Monday week they visited Dungourney and came away with full points, scoring 6-13 in the process. In this game they proved too strong for their opponents, particularly "down the middle", with Eric Broderick and James Walsh mastering the defence. Paudge Butler is proving to be a fine acquisition in the middle of the field with Ollie Hayes and Brendan O' Driscoll leading the charge up front. With a couple of home games ahead against Castlelyons and Bride Rovers, it is hoped that the winning trend continues.
Team: (v Dungourney) Paul Colbert, Shane O' Brien (0-1), James Walsh, Seamus Harrington, Edmund Bailey, Eric Broderick, Sean Holland (0-1), Paudge Butler (0-3), Eoin Griffin (0-1), Kevin Prendergast (0-1), Ollie Hayes (0-3), Niall Griffin, Shane Donnelly (1-0), Brendan O' Driscoll (2-3), Shane Harrington (2-0), Luke Swyane (1-0), Michael O' Brien, Luke Barry, Ian Hurley.

Under-14: This team had their fourth football league game at home to Castlelyons on Saturday afternoon last. It was a beautiful day for football and many of the players found the increase in temperature a little tough, given the Arctic conditions in which they have played their previous games. There was little between the teams scorewise in the first half, although our opponents looked to have the cuter touches, especially up front. A goal for Castlelyons shortly after the restart gave them a little daylight, which they carried through to the final whistle, despite the best efforts of Eoghan McCarthy, Robert Murphy and David Colbert. Final Score; Castlelyons 1-5, Fr. O' Neills 0-5.
Team: B Sloane, D Colbert, M O'Shea, Ml Barry, K Aherne, J.T. Gould, J Walsh, G O'Leary, R Murphy, E McCarthy, S Irwin, K Wall, E Griffin, M Moloney, E Broderick.

Fr. O'Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes.

Under-12: The younger generation is definitely showing the way this season with four victories on the trot in the football league. The successes over Glenbower and Dungourney have been followed up by further victory over Bride Rvs and Castlelyons with both games in Aghavine. In the latter games they have come up against physically stronger teams and have acquitted themselves very well. The strength of this team lies in the balance it possesses, with different players playing prominent parts in each match. Shane Harrington has been on the scoresheet regularly with cousin Seamus settling in well alongside the "colossus" James Walsh in the full back line. But, to be fair all the panel are playing well at the moment, as we head towards our final league game against our neighbours in Cloyne, which should be listed for next Monday night. So, well done to Noel and the lads in the "bootroom" on a job well done up to now.
Panel: Paul Colbert, Shane O' Brien, James Walsh, Seamus Harrington, Edmund Bailey, Eric Broderick, Sean Holland, Paudge Butler, Eoin Griffin, Kevin Prendergast, Ollie Hayes, Niall Griffin, Shane Donnelly, Brendan O' Driscoll, Shane Harrington, Luke Swyane, Michael O' Brien, Luke Barry, Ian Hurley.

Under-16: The lads are finding the going difficult at the moment in the hurling league, but nothing that a little bit of training wouldn't put right. Defeat at the hands of Castlemartyr has been followed by a similar fate with away fixtures to Lisgoold and Carrig na bhFear. In the last game, the team showed a noticeable improvement and the selectors are hoping to build on this during the close season, which runs from now until the end of the Exams.
Panel: J P Quinn, M O' Shea, N O' Shea, B O' Connell, J T Gould, M Hodnett, P Hegarty, T Dineen, L O' Connell, E O' Brien, C O' Regan, R Murphy, M Moloney, P Swyane, R Murphy, K O'Driscoll and G O' Brien.

Sciath na Scoil: Well done to the Camogie and Hurling teams who are doing well at the moment in their respective competitions. The hurlers, under the guidance of Tom Wall and Mgt. Beausang have won all their games thus far against opposition from Ballygarvan, Rushbrooke, Clonpriest and Douglas. Let's hope that we'll all have a day out shortly in Páirc Uí Rinn, to help cheer on both teams in their respective finals.

Cork Minor Hurling Team: Best wishes go to John Flavin, who at time of going to press, is getting set to play for Cork against Clare in the M.H.C. Regardless of whatever the outcome will be, we congratulate him on this achievement. John has been a great servant of the club down the years and will be for many years to come. Last year he played on the minor football team, thus becoming the second player from the club to represent Cork minors at dual level. Even though we rejoice in John's success we commiserate with Billy Murphy, who would have joined John on the panel, had it not been for an injury received in a recent club game. We hope that victory will still give Billy a chance to show his skills on the intercounty stage. It should also be mentioned that Carrigtwohill man, Noel Furlong, who is expected to line out at full-back, is a grandson of Kitty O'Driscoll of Ballymacoda..
We would also like to wish the others on the team and particularly the representatives from the division the best of luck.

Fr. O' Neills G.A.A. Golf Society: Full results of last weekends "Trip To Tipp", will be available here next week. The day was an tremendous success, despite the "half-measures" employed by "El Capitano" and a fellow committee member on the week leading up to the event. Further details later, so, watch this space

Fr. O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes (31/5/99)
Sciath na Scoil: Pride of place this week goes to Kevin Aherne and his victorious team on capturing the hurling title, to add to the football title, which was claimed earlier in the school year. On Monday last they met a very determined team from Clonpriest N.S. in Páirc Uí Rinn. Kilcredan had defeated the Gortroe men earlier in the league, but on this occasion they came up against a much-improved outfit, with the result ready to go either way, midway through the second half. The sense of occasion showed on both teams, as they found scores hard to come by in the first half. Play was very tight as both teams hunted in packs for the ball, allowing very little room for clear striking. The teams were level at the interval with 1-1 apiece with Kilcredan's goal coming from Ollie Hayes. The second half started with both sides looking to take the initiative and one felt that whoever scored first would have the advantage, but that vital score was a long time coming. Eric Broderick netted midway through the second half and from then on Kilcredan began to dominate and added a further goal and three points without reply. The highlights of these scores were the two points scored, one from Ger O' Leary and the other from the camán of Kieran Wall. One cannot let this occasion pass without referring to the display of the Clonpriest player Brendan Ring, who showed to all present that he is a name to watchout for in the future with a superb display of his skills. On the Kilcredan side, this scribe votes for Eoin Griffin, who turned in a fine display of goalkeeping, when most needed.
Final Score: Kilcredan N.S. 4-3 Clonpriest N.S. 1-1.
Panel: K Aherne (capt), E Griffin, J Walsh, B Sloane, S O'Brien, Robt Murphy, E McCarthy, G O' Leary (0-1), K Wall (2-1), S Irwin, E Broderick (1-0), P Butler, O Hayes (2-0), Ml Griffin, S Hodnett, S Holland, E Bailey, Seamus Harrington, P O'Shea, Ml O' Brien, I Hurley, T Kenneally, Shane Harrington, L Swyane, N Griffin, E Swyane, E Kenefick, D Cashmaan, J Hodnett, S Gumbelton, J Barry, S Donnelly.
Well done to Mgt Beausang N.T. and Tom Wall ("Keep Schmicheal" Campaign) on their marvellous efforts throughout the year in achieving this unique double.

Under-14: The U-14's achieved their second win in the hurling league with a fairly comprehensive victory over Bride Rovers in Aghavine, on Wednesday week last. The visitors found the going tough with Robt Murphy particularly prominent in defence, ably assisted by Brian Sloane and David Colbert. Up front Mark Moloney is leading the attack well with Ml Barry showing well at lár na páirce. A feature of this game, reportedly, was the absence of red and yellow cards and also the record number of slap-balls. After all, what can match "the clash of the ash", certainly not coloured cards.
Final Score: Fr. O' Neills 4-8 Br. Rovers 0-5.
Team: E Griffin, D Colbert, M O'Shea, B Sloane, J Walsh, R Murphy, K Aherne, G O'Leary, Ml Barry, K Wall, J T Gould, Ml Griffin, E McCarthy, M Moloney (capt), S Irwin, Subs: E Broderick, S Hodnett, S O'Brien, O Hayes, P Butler (all played).

Fr. O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Club 7/6/99

Under-12: Well this week has been solely devoted to the under-12's with a very important fixture against Glenbower Rvs on Thursday night last in the semi-final of the football championship. This game was a classic, with both teams fighting for the honours up to the final whistle. Even though O' Neills had the upper hand in their league meeting earlier in the year, it was championship football at it's best on the night. In a very close game O' Neills emerged victorious, by the skin of their teeth, to contest the final on the Bank holiday Monday afternoon against their great rivals from Cloyne.
The final was fixed for the splendid grounds in Ballinacurra on Monday at 4.30p.m. and both O'Neills and Cloyne turned up in great numbers to support their respective teams. This was not a game for the faint-hearted with little separating the teams throughout. O'Neills got the better start with scores from Brendan O' Driscoll and Ollie Hayes, but Cloyne replied well coming up to half-time with a very well taken goal, to leave the scores 1-2 to 1-0 in O' Neills favour. Cloyne started the 2nd half better and continued to exert pressure on the O'Neills defence, but only managed a point. O' Neills launched many attacks after this, but failed to register a score. Then one of the Cloyne players was very misfortunate to get sent to the line and as so often happens to a spirited team the Cloyne lads began to play again with the greater purpose, yielding a goal, which gave them a two point lead. Padraig Butler reduced the deficit to a single point, but O' Neills tried in vain to gain another score, which would have given them at least a share of the spoils. The final score Cloyne 2-1, Fr. O' Neills 1-3.
In these games O'Neills had many fine performers in particular Ed Bailey, James Walsh and Shane Harrington, but sadly victory was not to be their lot. Well done to all the players and their mentors, Noel O'Driscoll, Donal Broderick and Paul Harrington, as they say, "beith lá eile"
Panel: (v Cloyne) : Paul Colbert, Shane O' Brien, James Walsh, Seamus Harrington, Edmund Bailey, Eric Broderick, Sean Holland, Paudge Butler, Eoin Griffin, Kevin Prendergast, Ollie Hayes, Luke Swyane, Niall Griffin, Brendan O' Driscoll, Shane Harrington, Shane Donnelly, Ian Hurley, Michael O' Brien, Luke Barry.

Best Wishes: This week one of our club players has the honour of playing in Thurles at half-time in the Cork v Waterford game. We send our best wishes to Ger O' Leary, Ladysbridge and wish him well on his big day.

"Team of the last Thirty": Well "ceist agam ort", has dried up a little so in the upcoming fortnight it is intended to organise a panel of "judges" to pick their best O' Neills hurling team from 1970 till the present day. If we can find a sponsor we will invite entries to participate in a competition and those nearest our "judges" selection might earn themselves a week for one in "Garryvoe Riviera" or some other great prize. So get on the "thinking caps" and as they say "Watch this space".

Fr. O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes 21/6/99
Under-14's:
The U-14 team continued their unbeaten run in this years hurling league, when they had an impressive win over a fine Lisgoold team on Wednesday night last. This was a fine game of hurling but it was the ability of the O' Neill's forwards to turn their possession into scores, that was the biggest difference between the sides. If ever a scoreline did not reflect the match itself, then this was it. Mark Moloney was the tormentor of the Lisgoold back division when he notched up a personal tally of 3-1. Ger O' Leary, who had distinguished himself on the Cork Primary hurling team in Thurles the previous day, formed a very good midfield partnership with the ever improving Ml Barry. At the back Martin O' Shea was his usual solid self at full-back, while Robt Murphy, Kevin Ahearn and James Walsh formed a fine half-back line. Final Score: Fr. O' Neills 7-1 Lisgoold 0-3.
Team: E Griffin, D Colbert, M O'Shea, B Sloane, J Walsh, R Murphy, K Aherne, G O'Leary (1-0), Ml Barry, S Irwin, J T Gould, Ml Griffin (1-0), E McCarthy, M Moloney (capt) (3-1), O Hayes(1-0), Subs: E Broderick (1-0), S O'Brien, P Butler (all played).

Under-12's: The U-12 resumed action, after the disappointment of the football defeat, with the first round of the hurling league against near neighbours Killeagh. Aghavine was the venue for this match, on last Tuesday week. Having played so much football for the previous six weeks, the hurling was all of a sudden upon them, with the minimum of preparation done. However, the players had certainly benefited from their participation in the sciath na scoil competition and served up a fine display. The opening half was dominated by O' Neills, with James Walsh ans Shane O' Brien lording matters at the back and Padraig Butler and Eoin Griffin providing a good supply from their centre-field berths. The second half, however was a different matter, with the Killeagh lads a totally transformed team. Killeagh piled on the pressure for twenty minutes of this half and notched up 4-1, without reply to give them a one-point lead. The move of Eric Broderick into the forward line, was just what the doctor ordered, with the latter contributing handsomely to the final score of the match, a goal in the dying minutes. Final Score: Fr. O'Neills 3-6 Killeagh 4-1.
Team: Seamus Harrington, Shane O' Brien, Edmund Bailey, Shane Donnelly,Sean Holland, James Walsh, Eric Broderick, Paudge Butler, Eoin Griffin, Luke Swyane, Brendan O' Driscoll, Shane Harrington, Paul Colbert, Ollie Hayes, Niall Griffin, Ian Hurley, Michael O' Brien,Kyle Dunne.

The Primary Game: This modern innovation by the G.A.A., whereby a selection representing the primary school pupils, play before the intercounty championship games, is proving a great success. At last weeks football championship game between Cork and Limerick, the primary game generated more support than the junior game, which preceded it. Kieran Wall, Ladysbridge was a member of the Cork team and represented his Kilcreadan school with distinction. We congratulate Kieran on this honour and also say well done to Ger O' Leary who played in the hurling game in Thurles, the previous Sunday.

Fr O' Neills G.A.A. Golf Society: The Captain's Prize (Mr. Wm Hogan) will take place in East Cork Golf Club on Saturday 11th July. The time-sheet for this event will be available at O' Flynn's Service Station, Ladysbridge from next Friday (25th June) onwards.

Fr. O' Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Club Notes
Under-14: It was the hurling championship on the agenda last weekend for the U-14 team, where they met Russell Rovers in Ballinacurra. Both teams had received byes to the semi-final stages when the draw was made, so a place in the final was the reward for the victors. The match was played on Saturday night last and if you can think back that far, you will remember that last Saturday was a good day for ducks, with continuous rain falling throughout the day. The game as a result, did not live up to expectations, with both sets of players finding it difficult to play in the greasy conditions. The opening score of the game did not come until the fifteenth minute, when Mark Moloney finished a long delivery to the net. Scores were at a premium with only one other point being added before the break. Eoghan McCarthy goaled with a superb ground-stroke immediately after the restart and with Robert Murphy excelling at centre-back O' Neills began to finally get a grip on the game. "The Rovers" got a goal shortly afterwards but Ger O' Leary pointed, before Moloney wrapped things up with a goal in the dying minutes.
Final Score: Fr. O' Neills 3-3 Russell Rovers 1-0.
Team: Team: E Griffin, D Colbert, M O'Shea, S Hoddnett, J Walsh, R Murphy, K Aherne, G O'Leary (0-1), Ml Barry, O Hayes, J T Gould, E McCarthy (1-1), S O'Brien, M Moloney (capt) (2-1), K Wall, Subs: P Butler, S Holland, E Bailey,(all played).
The final of this competition had been fixed for Friday 16th July, at a venue yet to be announced.

Under-12's: This team has had two good victories over Castlelyons and Dungourney respectively, in the past fortnight. Shane O' Brien and James Walsh are rock solid in defence, while Padraig Butler and Shane Harrington are showing up well in the forward line. With only two remaining games in the league section to play, a victory in either game will ensure a semi-final placing. These games are:- at home to Aghada on Monday night, followed by an away trip to Rathcormac on the following Monday.
Scores: (v Castlelyons) Fr. O' Neills 2-6 Castlelyonns 1-3
(v Dungourney) Fr. O' Neills 3-5 Dungourney 0-1
Team: Luke Swyane, Edmund Bailey, Shane O' Brien, Shane Donnelly,Sean Holland, James Walsh, Seamus Harrington, Paudge Butler, Eoin Griffin, Niall Griffin, Ollie Hayes, Shane Harrington, Kevin Prenndergast, Ian Hurley, Michael O' Brien, Kyle Dunne, Paul Colbert,.

Fr O’ Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes
Under-14:
The ‘B’ football championship started on last Tuesday week, with O’ Neills playing Dungourney in Castlemartyr. These sides met two years previous in the U-12 final, with victory going to the “Duns” by a narrow margin, so it was once again going to be a close encounter. Dungourney dominated the early exchanges, scoring two fine points without reply. The move of J.T. Gould from fullback to midfield worked very well for O’ Neills and they had the best of the proceedings to the break, leading 0-4 to 0-3. The second half was as competitive as the first, with O’Neills piling on the scores, with some great points from J.T. Gould, Ger O’ Leary and Eoghan McCarthy, followed by a Kieran Wall goal. Dungourney, at this stage began to throw caution to the wind and came back well with a goal and two points but Robt Murphy and Simon Irwin pointed before O’ Leary goaled to put O’ Neills through to the semi-final on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-5.
Team: B Tambling, J Walsh, J T Gould (0-2), B Sloane, D Colbert, R Murphy (0-1), K Aherne, G O'Leary (1-3), K Wall (1-0), E Griffin, S Irwin (0-1), I Hennessy, E McCarthy (0-1), M Moloney, E Broderick, Subs: P Butler, S O’ Brien, S Hodnett, O Hayes, Ml Griffin.

On last Friday night O’ Neills played Aghada in the semi-final at Killeagh. O’ Neills started well with a point from J.T. Gould before Aghada stormed into the game with three points, without reply. O’ Neills came good coming up to half time thanks to fine play by David Colbert and Robt Murphy at the back and fine scores by Simon Irwin and Mark Moloney up front. The halftime score was 1-4 to 0-5 in favour of O” Neills with the goal coming from the boot of Moloney.
The second half started like the first with Aghada exerting early pressure before O’ Neills replied with an Irwin point. Robt Murphy, who was playing well up to this point, sustained a leg injury after falling awkwardly and had to be stretchered off the field. This was a major loss at the time but O’ Neills rallied well and a great goal by O’ Leary seemed to set them up for victory. Aghada, however, had other ideas and replied in great fashion with two goals, to give them a one-point lead, with minutes remaining. Enter Stevie Hodnett, with a match saving point for O’ Neills to put this game to a replay, at a date yet to be announced. Final Score: 2-7 each.
O’Neills had a lot of fine performances on the night, particularly from Brian Tambling in goal, David Colbert and Kevin Ahern in defence, Ger O’ Leary and J.T. Gould in midfield and Mark Moloney and Simon Irwin in the forward division.
Team: B Tambling, D Colbert, M O’ Shea, B Sloane, J Walsh, R Murphy, K Aherne, G O'Leary (1-2), J T Gould (0-1), Ml Griffin, S Irwin (0-2), I Hennessy, S Hodnett, M Moloney (1-2), K Wall, Subs: E Broderick (for R Murphy), P Butler, S O’ Brien, O Hayes, E Griffin (for Ml Griffin).

Committee Meeting: On this Thursday night at 9.30p.m. in Ladysbridge Hall. At this meeting times and dates of the U-14 replay, the U-16 hurling championship first round and the U-12 hurling semi-final will be announced.

Fr O’ Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes
Under-12:
Killeagh were our opponents in the semi-final of this year’s U-12 hurling championship, played in Aghavine on last Monday week. These teams had met in the opening match in the league with victory going to O’ Neills “by the skin of their teeth”, after a great Killeagh revival in the second half of the match. O’ Neills were looking for an improved performance, having been beaten in their final league match by Aghada. The home side made the early running, mainly due to the strong play of Shane O’ Brien and James Walsh in the center of defence. Eric Broderick was showing well in attack and scored two fine goals before the interval, which was added to by a Padraig Butler point. O’ Neills led at the break by 2-1 to 0-2. Killeagh stormed into the game in the second half, but this time they got the scores early and conceded little at the back. They chalked up 4-4 with Padraig Butler having O’ Neills only score of the second half. The final whistle brought disappointment to young lads, having earlier lost the final of the football and now going out in the penultimate stages of the hurling. Final Score: 4-4 to 2-2 in favour of the lads from Killeagh.
The club would to thank the lads for their efforts in both championships this year and also a word of thanks to Noel O’ Driscoll, Donal Broderick, John Donnelly and Paul Harrington for their work with this group of lads throughout the year.
Panel: (v Killeagh) K Prendergast, E Bailey, S O’ Brien, S Donnelly, Seamus Harrington, J Walsh, S Holland, E Griffin, O Hayes, L Swayne, P Butler, Shane Harrington, N Griffin, E Broderick, I Hurley, P Colbert, E Swayne, M O’ Brien.
The football team, by virtue of reaching the divisional football final, was nominated along with Cloyne, to contest the county series at their grade in football. This is a 12-a-side competition and last Saturday they travelled to Kilbrittan to take on the local team. By all accounts, this was an amazing match, with O’ Neills recovering from an 11 point deficit to record a one point victory. The reason for this turnabout can best be described by one of the players when he said that at half time, Noel told the team “a few facts about themselves”. Star of the show must be Padraig Butler, who when moved into the full-forward line contributed a total of 4-3. The team now awaits the next fixture in this competition.
Team: Paul Colbert, Shane O' Brien, James Walsh, Seamus Harrington, Eric Broderick, Edmund Bailey, Paudge Butler(4-3), Eoin Griffin, Ollie Hayes, Shane Donnelly, Brendan O' Driscoll(1-0), Shane Harrington(2-1), Subs: Ian Hurley, Niall Griffin, Luke Swyane Michael O' Brien, E Swayne, S Scanlon.

Under-14: The replay of the Under-14 football match with Aghada took place in Killeagh on last Tuesday week. Hopes were high that we could secure victory, with Robt Murphy, thankfully recovered from injury and the return of players who were previously on holiday. Aghada started the better, with three quick points before Eoghan McCarthy registered O’ Neills first score with a point from play. This was followed by a superb Mark Moloney goal to give O’ Neills the lead. O’ Neills took over and added a further goal and two points to Aghada’s point before halftime, the goal coming from J T Gould, who was O Neills best player on the night. Hopes were high at half time, but the players were aware of their opponents’ tradition in football. Aghada were a new team in the second half and came at O’ Neills in waves. Aghada scored a goal and five points on the trot before Eoghan McCarthy registered O’ Neills only score of the second half, a point from play. The Aghada lads did not let this bother them as they added a further goal and two points to run out worthy winners on a score of 2-10 to 2-4. This completes the U-14 activities for the year, when they contested the final of the hurling competition and semi-final in football, without picking up any silverware. Well done to all the lads for their efforts this year and to their mentors, Tom Wall, Ger Lee and Willie Hogan.
Team (v Aghada): Team: B Tambling, D Colbert, M O’ Shea, B Sloane, J Walsh, R Murphy, K Aherne, G O'Leary(0-1), J T Gould(1-0), K Wall, S Irwin(0-1), I Hennessy, E McCarthy(0-2), M Moloney(1-0) , K Wall, Subs: E Broderick, Ml Griffin, P Butler, S Hodnett, S O’ Brien, O Hayes, E Griffin.

Under-16: After nearly a two month break from the playing fields, this team had to face Bride Rovers in the hurling championship, in Dungourney on Monday night last. The team performed reasonably well, mainly due to the efforts of Noel O’ Shea at full back and Daniel Ryan at centre back. The younger forwards were finding the going tougher against their physically stronger opponents and scores were at a premium. Kevin O’ Driscoll scored a goal and Noel O’ Shea pointed two frees for O’ Neills first half total which say them three points in arrears. A feature of this game was the scoring potential of the Bride Rovers centre-back from placed balls, who converted everything from his own 65 meter onwards. The Rovers piled on the scores in the second half, but O’ Neills came with a late rally, through goals from Mark Moloney and Mark Hodnett. The gap was now down to two points, but that final score never came and Rovers ran out deserving winners on a score of 1-12 to 3-4.
Team: J P Quinn, M O’ Shea, N O’ Shea (0-4), Robt Murphy, C O’ Regan, D Ryan, J T Gould, E O’ Brien, T Dineen, L O’ Connell, M Hodnett (1-0), K O’ Driscoll (1-0), P Swayne, M Moloney (1-0), Ml Barry with K Wall and K Ahearn both introduced as subs.

Best Wishes: We wish our former juvenile player, John Flavin, the best of luck this weekend, when he takes the field for the Cork minor footballers in Croke Park on Sunday next. Good luck John.

Fr O’ Neills Juvenile G.A.A. Notes
Juvenile Indoor Hurling Leagues:

Since the end of October, activity has been rather quite on the juvenile scene. However, the national schoolboys have been very busy every Monday and Wednesday night, running off their indoor league, which reached its climax on Sunday last. Forty-five young players, between the ages of 8 and 12 have been competing in this league in Ladysbridge Hall with the past five weeks. Credit for this must go to Bobby Lee, who started this competition four years ago and who has continued to be it’s driving influence as it goes from strength to strength. But, Bobby was not alone and this year as Seamus Joyce, Thomas Harrington, Paul Harrington, Seamus Cronin, John Donnelly and Billy Pomphrett ably assisted him. The finals of the competitions took place on Sunday last, in the Carmelite Sports Hall, Castlemartyr and it was great to see so many families present, to witness the conclusion of this competition.
The results of the finals are as follows:
Group 1 (8-10 yrs.)

Churchgate Collection:
The club would like to thank, most sincerely, all those who contributed to our recent collection.

Christmas Raffle:
Tickets are still on sale from committee members, for our annual Christmas raffle, which will take place in Daly’s Bar, Ballymacoda, on next Monday night. The club wishes to avail of this opportunity, to thank all those who have sponsored prizes for this fund-raiser.

Juvenile Social:
“Where you there last year?”. If not you missed a mighty night, but, you can redeem yourself, by attending this years social event of the new millennium. The social will be held in Garryvoe Hotel towards the end of January and Tom “Jim Aiken” Wall tells me that an individual named “Liam McCarthy” will be attending along with his present minder, to present the medals on the night. Tickets will be available from HMV in Ladysbridge and Ballymacoda early in the New Year and there will be no charge on Credit Card bookings this Year. All that remains to be said is :- “Yipeee”.

Danny ‘Sailor’ Power (R.I.P):
The club would like to offer its sympathies to the family of the late Danny Power, who passed away recently. Danny played with clubs from the parish during the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s and was widely regarded, by those fortunate enough to have seen him play, as one of the most skilful players to ply his skills on the hurling fields of East Cork. May he rest in peace.

Annual General Meeting.
The club’s A.G.M. was held in Ballymacoda Hall on Tuesday 11th. before a good sized attendance. Reports were presented by the secretary, Maurice Conway and then by the treasurer Paul Harrington. Both reports were discussed at length. The chairman of the junior club, Pat O’ Keeffe and the parish priest Fr. Indoor Hurling.
For the juvenile hurling teams, while the grass is taking a rest for the winter months, the wood floors of various Sports-halls are feeling the brunt of ash. This was the case in the past fortnight, for the U-10 and 4th class teams from the club, who participated, in two separate competitions.
First up was the 4th class team from Kilcreedan National School, who took part in a Schools Indoor Hurling Blitz, which was played in Carrigtwohill Community Centre. The team had a most successful outing, securing victory in their three matches against Midleton’B’, Castlemartyr and Dungourney respectively. As a result of topping their group, they now go forward to a continuation of this competition at county level. Well done to these young stars and we wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the competition. Panel: David Hyde, Padraig O’ Shea, Eugene Kenefick, Niall Griffin, Shane Harrington, Jamie Hodnett, Michael Paul Bailey, Tony Sloane, Darren Cashman, Mark Hayes, Stephen Hennessy, Stephen Gumbleton.
The U-10 team, under the tutelage of Bobby Lee and Seamus Joyce, were invited to a similar competition in Little Island. In a three-team group they had victory over Carrigtwohill but lost to Youghal ‘B’. The team still qualified for the semi-final stages of the competition, where they came up against a very strong Youghal ‘C’ team. In this game our lads finished second best on a score-line of 7goals to two. Panel:John O’ Driscoll, David Hyde, Thomas Lawton, Michael Paul Bailey, Robert Hyde, Niall Griffin, William Joyce, Michael Pomphrett,Tony Sloane, Jamie Hodnett, Michael Moloney, Mark Hayes.

“The calm before the storm”
The first juvenile games of the new millennium are about to start, with the Under-15 footballers entering the fray on Saturday 18th March. After that it’s full steam ahead for all the other teams in the different competitions. The big changes this year are, the introduction of 12 a-side competition for U-16 ‘C’ teams in both league and championship and the change in nights for league matches. Up to now the U-12’s played on Monday nights and the U-16’s at weekends. Now these nights are reversed, with the U-12’s playing on Friday nights and the U-16’s on Monday nights. The U-14 league matches will remain on their usual Wednesday night slot. The U-13 and U-15 competitions are getting a higher profile this year and these matches will be played at different times throughout the normal season. The U-13 competition in both codes will be played on Bank Holiday Monday’s, starting with the football c/ship on Easter Monday. The U-15 football competition starts on March 18th. Another change of note, is that five substitutes may be introduced in all competitions, with the exception of U-16 ‘A’ & ‘B’ competitions.
The following are the championship draws for Fr. O’Neills teams:-
Under-12 Hurling League (Group ‘C’)
Bride Rovers, Fr. O’Neills, Castlemartyr, Aghada, Sarsfields ‘B’.

Under-15 Football
The ball started rolling on the first juvenile competitive game of the season on Sunday evening last, when O’Neills travelled to Rathcormac for an U-15 football fixture against Bride Rovers. It was great to see such a large turnout of players available for this opening fixture, with 21 players travelling on the night. The “cobwebs” were evident in the opening quarter but after this period the lads settled to the task, with some well-taken scores. Rovers had the benefit of a game earlier in the week against Dungourney, whom they defeated, and were very eager to make it two wins on the trot. This resulted in a very close game for the full 60 minutes. However, at the final whistle, O’Neills claimed victory on a scoreline, which read 5-3 to 3-7.
Team: Brian Tambling, David Colbert, Martin O’Shea (capt), Brian Sloane, James Walsh, Robert Murphy, Kevin Ahern, Ger O’Leary (0-1), John T Gould, Eoghan McCarthy (1-1), Simon Irwin, Eoin Griffin, Michael Griffin, Mark Moloney (2-1), Michael Barry (2-0). Subs: Kieran Wall, Ollie Hayes, Shane O’Brien, Seán Holland, Brendan O’Driscoll, Edmond Bailey.

Congratulations:
Congrats to Mary Flavin-Colbert on her success last weekend in Clonmel. Mary represented the club in the Munster finals of Scór Sinsir, participating in the “Recitation” section. As a result of this success, Mary goes forward to the All-Ireland finals, to be held in Belfast at the end of the month. On behalf of the juvenile club, we wish her every success. Paisley beware, we’re on our way !

Under–15 Football Final:
This game was played on Sunday morning last in Aghavine with Peter Hegarty (Cloyne) on the whistle. O’Neills, who had earlier in the week beaten Dungourney to reach the final, were up against near neighbours Russell Rovers. Both sides were very aware of the very strong wind that was blowing down the field and Rovers, on winning the toss, elected to play with it. When a team makes this decision, they must get down to work immediately to build up the scores and this is what the Rovers duly did, building up a lead 0-4 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. They continued to pile on the pressure during the half, playing direct football into a forward line that revelled in this supply with some excellent scores. O’Neills, in the meantime found it very difficult to move the ball with the same speed into their forwards and very often passing movements broke down at the final stages, frustrating the home team and inspiring their opponents to push on the scores. By the half-time whistle, the Rovers led on a score of 1-10 to 0-1. Despite this gap in the scoreline, O’Neills were optimistic that they could overcome this lead, having the wind at their backs for the second-half. Robt Murphy, Eoghan McCarthy and Ger O’ Leary in particular, set about this task with gusto and had the Rovers on the backfoot, but shrewd switches in defence allied to the excellence of the Rover’s ‘keeper, kept the home team at bay and thus the push was on for goals. Two goals by O’ Leary followed by a similar score from Kieran Wall reduced the arrears, but Rovers replied with two well pointed frees. McCarthy and Mark Moloney added a brace of points for O’Neills to leave the minimum between the sides with minutes remaining. At this point, the home side squandered some good chances to level matters and in the end time ran out with Rovers claiming a fine and well deserved victory on a score of 1-12 to 3-5. Best for O’Neills on the day were Brian Tambling in goals with James Walsh and David Colbert very solid in defence throughout. Ger O’ Leary excelled at midfield with Eoghan McCarthy the pick of the forwards. We congratulate Russell Rovers on their success.
Team: Brian Tambling, David Colbert, Martin O’Shea (capt), Brian Sloane, James Walsh, Robert Murphy, Kevin Ahern, Ger O’Leary (2-2), John T Gould, Eoghan McCarthy (0-2), Simon Irwin, Eoin Griffin, Kieran Wall, Mark Moloney (0-1), Michael Barry. Subs: Michael Griffin, Ollie Hayes, Shane O’Brien, Seán Holland, Brendan O’Driscoll, Edmond Bailey, Stevie Hodnett.

Under-16 Football league
History was made in Lisgoold on Monday night last, when O’Neills took on the home side in the first match of the league, now played with a 12 a-side team at this level. It will be interesting to see what the players’ reaction will be, but from a spectators point of view it was a highly entertaining game with plenty open football due to the extra space created on the field. Maybe at this early stage of the season, with little training done, players will find it a little difficult, but with each extra match they will find greater room to display their skills. Both sides had their periods of dominance and had the scores to match but overall this was a very evenly contested match. Brian McCarthy excelled at midfield, ably assisted by his brother Eoghan and cousin Ger O’ Leary. David Colbert was very solid at the back with Mark Moloney a constant threat up front for O’ Neills. At the whistle the points were shared on a scoreline of 1-9 each. It was a pity no referee turned up for the game, which resulted in a home team official having to referee and at the same time see after his team, as best he could.
Team: Brian Tambling, David Colbert, Michael Barry, Patrick Hegarty, Robert Murphy, Kevin Ahern, Ger O’Leary (0-3), Brian McCarthy (1-2), Eoghan McCarthy (0-2), John Barry, John Paul Quinn, Mark Moloney (0-2). Subs: Kieran Wall, Brian Sloane.

Congratulations:
This week we congratulate Ballybridge United on their victory in the Red House Cup Final played on Sunday last in Tallow. Great credit is due to the players and mentors on securing this fine victory. Well done to all concerned.

Under-16:
This team played in the second round of the football league when they were at home to Dungourney on Monday night last. In the opening rounds of any season, injuries seem to be picked up more readily and for the home team this was no exception, as three players reported unfit to play. However, we now see the advantage of this 12 a-side competition, as O’Neills were still able to field in the league. If this ware still a 15 a-side competition we would have been unable to field a team and thus cause disillusionment among the players with many players going through the season with few games. Getting back to the match, O’Neills had the upper-hand in this game throughout. With Robt Murphy (nursing a slight injury) making his debut between the sticks, Brian Tambling got his chance to show his stuff out the field and show his stuff he did with a fine display in the half-back line. Patrick Hegarty dominated his centre-back position while Brian McCarthy and brother Eoghan dominated the scoring, ably assisted by John Paul Quinn. Final Score: Fr. O’Neills 3-10 Dungourney 1-7.
Team: Robert Murphy, Brian Tambling, David Colbert, Michael Barry, Patrick Hegarty, Martin O’Shea, Brian McCarthy, Eoghan McCarthy John Thomas Gould, Michael Griffin, John Paul Quinn, Mark Moloney.

Under-14:
This team have really been producing the goods in the opening two rounds of their football league. The majority of these players played on the U-15 team earlier in the month and this may have been a help in providing tough matches for the players before the U-14 competition got underway. O’Neills have been at home for the opening two rounds, against Castlelyons and Aghada respectively. They scored 2-16 to Castlelyons’ 2-3 in the opening game and then notched up an impressive 6-13 to 3-2 when they met Aghada. Now with the momentum going it is a pity that the league will switch to hurling, with the first round game away to Dungourney on the 26/4 followed by a home game to Bride Rovers on the 3/5.

Under-12:
The U-12’s are having a mixed start to their season in the football league, being defeated by both Aghada and Cloyne at home while having a good victory away to Killeagh on a scoreline of 4-11 to 2-8, impressive scoring for U-12 players. The team is competing this year in Group 2, where every team you face is a major challenge, a challenge which continues with games against Glenville on 25/4 followed by the longest possible away trip to Carrig na bhFear three nights afterwards. This will complete the league section of this competition and the placing after these games will determine the draw for the knockout section of the competition.

Best Wishes:
The Juvenile Club would like to take this opportunity to wish Mary Flavin-Colbert all the good wishes of the club as she embarks on her quest for All-Ireland Scór honours in Belfast this weekend. Mary is representing the club, county and province in the recitation category and will take the stage at the Ulster Hall on Saturday 29th at 4 o’ clock. A sizeable group from the parish and surrounds are making the trip north to support Mary, who will hopefully return on Sunday with an All-Ireland title.

Under-14:
O’Neills had a good win in their first round of the hurling league when they defeated Dungourney in away territory last week. They were very solid displays in the backline where Stevie Hodnett and James Walsh were very prominent. Ger O’Leary and Kevin Ahern formed a strong mid-field partnership, while Kieran Wall with his hat-trick and Michael Griffin at full forward, get the plaudits in the forward division. This was a good start to the hurling for this team, who will entertain Bride Rovers at home in their next fixture. Final Score: Fr O’Neills 5-6, Dungourney 2-2.
