Fé 10 Hurlers win Deckie Guckian Hurling League

Our Fé 10 hurlers defeated Sars in the final of the Deckie Guckian Hurling League before a large attendance in the Glen. From the throw in both teams showed what a skilful bunch of players both clubs had available, and it was clear that the result was going to be close until the very end. O’ Neills started well with Daniel Harrington and Cillian Broderick showing well and were unlucky that a few shots on goal went narrowly wide. However Sars were a constant threat and mid way through the half Sars broke through to score two points. O’ Neills never panicked and they were to be the last scores conceded in the entire game, which is a credit to the entire O’ Neills defence. O’ Neills went in at the break loosing on a score line of two points to nil.

O’ Neills started the second half at great pace and opened the scoring early on with a point from Billy Dunne. This was to be the trend for the half with Billy Dunne to dominate the scoring. But O’ Neills can also thank their entire team for a solid display, their skill and work rate brought them right back into the game, and mid way through the match O’ Neills went into the lead with a goal from Billy Dunne. It was a case of ‘shutting up shop’ at this stage, with Declan Dalton looking solid in goals and Adam Harrington leading the full back line well. Billy Dunne went onto score three further points to put some distance on the score board between the teams. At the sound of the full time whistle there were scenes of great jubilation from both young and old. Team captain Daniel Harrington accepted the cup on behalf of the team, and in his speech thanked his selectors for the work they had put in. Well done to everyone concerned with the team, and thanks to Glen Rovers for the brilliant organisation that went into the tournament.

Fr. O’ Neills Panel: Declan Dalton, Cal Hegarty, Adam Harrington, Mark Motherway, Ryan Kenneally, Daniel Harrington, Eoin Motherway, Ger Millerick, Cillian Broderick, Billy Dunne, Michael Millerick, Oisin Murphy, Conor O’Driscoll, Séan O’Connor, Colm Swayne, Martin Beausang, Colin Beausang, Christopher Morrissey, Tom Barry, Justin Dempsey, Adam Keneally, Cian McGrath and Jason Murphy.

Fé 12 ‘A’ Football Semi-Final: Fr. O’ Neills 1-02 Glanmire 1-10

This game was played in the new field last Friday, which was also the first championship game played on the sod. O’ Neills battled hard and played some good football but ultimately the difference in physical size of both teams counted against O’ Neills. O’ Neills went in at the break loosing on a score line of five points to one, despite having defended well with both Daniel Harrington’s (senior and junior!) playing well and some brilliant goalkeeping by David O’ Reilly. The second half saw Glanmire pull away further. O’ Neills did get some reward or their endeavour, with Billy Dunne scoring a goal and Kevin Lee scoring a great point. Well done to the lads on a solid campaign in the top grade of football in East Cork.

Early in the second half Na Piarsaig had a 10 point lead but our boys never gave up and Na Piarsaig were relieved to hear the final whistle.Well done to Lismore for doing a great job in organising the blitz and for catering for us over what was a long day and providing excellent referee’s.

Fé 14 Hurling Feile Round 1: Fr. O’ Neills 0-09 Killeagh/Itas 5-05

O’ Neills hurled well in the first half of this match with the backing of a stiff breeze. Liam  O’ Driscoll pointed two frees and one from play. Daniel Harrington, Joe Millerick and Shane Lee got on the score board with a point each. Gavin Sloane battled well for the half and ended up with two points. In defence Darren McCarthy and Tony Sloane were solid. O’ Neills went in at half time with a lead of seven points. However, in the second half O’ Neills could find no answer to Killeagh, playing with fourteen men for Most of the half didn’t help their cause either. Despite this the lads battled hard, and can take encouragement from the first half display.

Fr. O’ Neills Team: Jack Barry, Adrian Kenneally, Tony Sloane, Colm Aherne, William Lane, Darren McCarthy, Kenneth Hegarty,  Donagh O’ Flynn, Joe Millerick, Daniel Harrington, Liam O’ Driscoll, Gavin Sloane, Eoghan O’ Neill, Pádraig McMahon.

Fé 16 ‘A’ Football League: Fr. O’ Neills 2-06 Youghal 1-07

O’ Neills got off to a shaky start in this one, with Youghal scoring three unanswered points inside the first five minutes. For the next ten minutes it was a case of ‘backs to the walls’ for the O’ Neills defence. But in fairness to them they held their lines well, with Shane Dunne, Barry Hayes, and TJ Keneally impressing most. It took until the end of the first quarter for O’ Neills to settle and register their first score, with a pointed free from Gavin Foley. This seemed to give O’ Neills confidence and for the rest of the half they dominated proceedings. Gavin Foley was proving lethal from frees and from play with points in the twentieth, twenty-second, and twenty-fourth minutes. With twenty-eight minutes on the clock O’ Neills registered their best score of the game; with a passing movement starting with a kick from the very impressive Seam Meridith in goals to Mark Hayes who ran sixty meters before offloading to TJ Kenneally who in turn passed to Gavin Foley who dually put it over the bar. To add to this Gavin Foley scored a goal from a free on the twenty-one on the stroke of half time. This left O’ Neills in a commanding position at half time leading on a score line of 1-05 to 0-03.

Youghal again started the second half strongly scoring two points within the first eight minutes. However, O’ Neills were determined not to relinquish their lead easily and in the forty-first minute Tony Motherway punched the ball to the back of the net from a cross field ball. Youghal continued to attack and scored another point with forty six minutes gone. But again O’ Neills responded with a well taken point from William Joyce. For the last tem minutes Youghal launched everything they had into attack. They registered a point with five minutes to go, and but for a superb save by Sean Meridith. Finally in the first minute of injury time the O’ Neills defence and Sean Meridith were finally caught for a goal, but it was too late and O’ Neills hung on for a good victory.

Fr. O’ Neills: Sean Meridith, Shane Dunne, Irwin Lane, John Bailey, Conor Broderick, Barry Hayes, TJ Kenneally, William Joyce, Mark Hayes, Tadhg McCarthy, Gavin Foley Fergal Duffy, Tony Motherway, Noel O’ Driscoll, Darren McCarthy. Sub: Paddy Quinn.

Fé-13 ‘B’ Football Championship: Fr. O’ Neills 2-05 – Killeagh Itas 2-13

Thanks to Paddy Mc Mahon for the following report. This game was played in a sunny Aghavine on St. Patricks Day. Killeagh Itas opened the scoring with three unanswered scores to go 1-02 to no score up after twelve minutes. O’ Neills with the aid of the wind settled down to play some nice football and opened their scoring with a great point form the boot of James Glennon. From here to half time O’ Neills dominated proceedings. Kevin O’Sullivan added a second point in the fifteenth minute. A three man passing movement saw Shane Lee sending the ball to the back of the net, to level the score. O’ Neills finished strongly; with 1-01 from Pádraig Mc Mahon and a point from Joe Millerick. This left the score at halftime: O’ Neills 2-04 Killeagh Itas 1-02.
In the second half, with the aid of a strong wind, Killeagh Itas registered 1-11 compared to a single pointed free for O’ Neills. This saw them run out convincing winners on a score line of Killeagh Itas 2-13 – Fr O’ Neills 2-05. Even though O’ Neills found it hard to get the ball beyond the halfway line, they never gave up and fought for every ball.

Scorers for Fr O’ Neills: P Mc Mahon 1-02, S Lee 1-00, K O’ Sullivan, Joe Millerick J Glennon 0-01 each.
FR O’ NEILLS: Eoghan O’ Neill, Ger O’ Connel, William Lane, Adrian Kenneally, Daniel Harrington, Kenneth Hegarty, Jordan Hennessey, Joe Millerick, Darragh Sexton (capt), Pádraig Mc Mahon, Kevin O’ Sullivan, Kevin Sloane, David O’ Driscoll, James Glennon, Shane Lee. Subs: Thomas Millerick, Kevin Lee, Kevin Foley, Alan Barry, Liam Swayne, David O’ Reilly, Pat Steele.

Fé-16 ‘A’ Football League: Fr. O’ Neills 1-07 – Carrigtwohill 2-03

O’ Neills opened their football league campaign with a win in a bitterly cold Aghavine last Monday. O’ Neills got off to the best possible start, when an initial shot on goal was saved by the Carrig goalkeeper, but Noel O’ Driscoll was on hand to send the rebound to the back of the net. This goal was followed by two points from the boot of Gavin Foley in the sixth and fourteenth minutes. However Carrig responded immediately when a high ball came into the square, bounced, deceiving our keeper John Bailey and was finished to the net by Carrig. John blamed the sun and the umpire blamed the sand in the goals for the unorthodox bounce, either way it was agreed that the elements were to blame! It didn’t dampen the O’ Neills spirits as they continued to launch into attack with Mark Hayes showing well. However scores were proving hard to come by and with the wide count mounting there was a fear that this might tell in the second half. Eventually fortune showed some favor on our forwards with points from Liam O’ Driscoll and Gavin Foley in the twenty-fourth and twenty-ninth minutes respectively. However Carrig were not ready to let O’ Neills have it all their on way, and scored a point just before half time to leave the score at the break: O’ Neills 1-04 – Carrig 1-01.
O’ Neills opened the scoring just after the resumption of play in the thirty-fourth minute with a point from Gavin Foley. However it was Carrig who would dominate proceedings for a prolonged period of time, and would provide a serious test to the O’ Neills defence. Carrig got their first point of the game in the thirty-fifth minute. Wave after wave of attack came but the O’ Neills defence held firm, and an incisive breakaway resulted in a well taken point from Mark Hayes with forty-four minutes gone. Any hope that this might relieve the pressure was short lived when Carrigtwohill responded in kind with a point of their own in the forty-sixth minute. It could have been a lot worse minutes later, but for a brilliant save by John Bailey. It must be said that considering the serious pressure the defence was under, they handled it very well never panicking, in particular Irwin Lane, Barry Hayes and William Joyce. This was emphasized by the fact that Carrig were held scoreless for the next thirteen minutes, however the same was true of the O’ Neills attack. O’ Neills broke from defence on a number of occasions, but a combination of taking wrong options and good defence from Carrig ensured that O’ Neills did not pull further away. Finally with one minute left on the watch Gavin Foley pointed a forty-five to put O’ Neills four points ahead. The drama wasn’t over yet however, as Carrig went straight down the field and got a correctly awarded penalty, which was finished to the net. There were two further passages of play in the game, and unlike Scotland at the weekend, O’ Neills held out resolutely to secure victory. This was a good start to O’ Neills league campaign, showing good battling spirit and fitness. Well done to an up and coming referee named Eoin Griffin, on a fine display.

Scorers for Fr O’ Neills: G Foley 0-05, N O’ Driscoll 1-00, L O’ Driscoll, Mark Hayes 0-01 each.
FR O’ NEILLS: John Bailey, John Barry, Irwin Lane, TJ Kenneally, Conor Broderick, Barry Hayes, Wiliam Joyce, Mark Hayes, Alan Hayes, Tadhg McCarthy, Gavin Foley, Fergal Duffy, Darren McCarthy, Noel O’ Driscoll, Liam O’ Driscoll. Sub: Tony Motherway for Darren McCarthy.

AGM

Our AGM was held in the Club Rooms in Aghavine on Friday night last 12 th January. In what was a well attended meeting the Chairman Mr. Seamus Joyce firstly congratulated the adult club on winning the All Ireland Junior Hurling Final last February in Croke Park, he praised the full panel of players for their attitude and commitment throughout the year, and said they were perfect role models for all of our juvenile players. Seamus said the highlight of the year for the Juvenile Club was the historic winning of our first ever Fé 12 'B' Hurling County Title, he said that the players and selectors had done the club and the parish proud. He also congratulated the Fé 11 'B' and Fé 15 'B' hurlers on winning their respective East Cork Championships. He also commented that the other teams in the juvenile ranks had competed very well and that the Fé 13 'B' and Fé 16 'A' footballers had been unlucky their respective East Cork finals. The Chairman went on to thank all the players for their outstanding efforts over the past twelve months and likewise he thanked all the selectors and members for their dedication and work rate with all of the age groups.

He thanked the club's main sponsor Munster Seamless Gutters for their ongoing generosity and help with the funding of the club and also thanked all of the other individuals and businesses in the parish for their help during the year. Seamus wished the ten lads who are moving out of the juvenile ranks and up to the adult club the best of luck in the future, and thanked them for the last ten years or so of service and dedication to the Juvenile Club. He thanked his fellow officers for their hard work and dedication to the club and likewise the hard working committee of the juvenile club. A discussion on the cost of membership took place and it was decided after several of the attending members had their say, and it was decided to leave it at its present price of €10 per juvenile member with a family rate for families with three or more players.

The Secretary Mr. William Broderick gave a detailed and well documented report on all aspects of the clubs activities over the past twelve months. Mr. William Lane Treasurer gave a report showing the club to be in a healthy state money wise. The Chairman thanked both of them for their comprehensive reports. Seamus then moved on to the election of officers and committee members for the year ahead, this resulted as follows:

Hon Life President: Dick Lane .

President: Fr. Kevin Mulcahy C.C.

Vice Presidents: Maurice Conway, Paul Harrington.

Chairman: Seamus Joyce.

Vice-Chairman: Billy Harrington.

Secretary: William Broderick.

Assistant Secretary: Dan O' Connor.

Treasurer: William Lane .

Committee: Brendie McCarthy, Ger Donnelly, Ger Lee, Paddy McMahon, Michael Hegarty, Paudie Sexron, Tom Millerick, Pat O' Sullivan, Matie Kenneally, Pat O' Reilly, Tom Steele, Johny Dunne, Pa Dunne.

The election of selectors then took place with no shortage of adults willing to give of their time and expertise in the ongoing development of our juvenile members. Indeed such was the amount of adults willing and wanting to be involved a decision was taken that rather than excluding people from being involved with teams, that the positions of mentors be created to assist selectors at training and matches with; equipment, gear, water, medical supplies etc...

At this stage all that was left was for the Chairman to welcome everyone on board for the coming year, and to wish everybody the best of luck where it matters most; on the playing fields of East Cork and hopefully around the County as well.

Fé 15 'B' Hurling Champions

Fr. O' Neills 3-06 : Russell Rovers 1-08.

This was an historic victory for the club as it was our first ever Fé 15 'B' hurling title, it also made up for last years heart-braking defeat to St. Catherines in the Fé 14 hurling decider. But what a difference a year makes, and all the hurt and devastation felt last year by this bunch of players has been banished from memory. Coming into the final Fr. O' Neills had overcome the challenges of Youghal and Aghada. In the final they met a fancied Russell Rovers team. The game was played in Castlemartyr on Saturday 4th November in perfect conditions for hurling.

Russell Rovers got off to the better start scoring the opening point just after the ball had been thrown in. The O' Neills response was swift, with a pointed free from Alan Hayes and a point from Liam O' Driscoll both scored in the third minute. This was hectic stuff but the O' Neills scoring dried up and went almost a quarter of an hour without another score. The Rovers piled on the pressure scoring three points without response and then in the 16 th minute a serious blow to O' Neills hopes came with a well taken Rovers goal. Usually in games a goal like that which puts the opposition so far ahead can either kill a team off or it ignites a fight back. Thankfully it sparked O' Neills to life, with a much tighter defence from here on in particular John Bailey, Barry Hayes and Irwin Lane . Tadhg McCarty ended the scoring drought in the 18 th minute with dashing attack on the left wing that ended up with the ball being driven over the bar. In the 24 th minute O' Neills were brought right back into the game with a brilliant overlap move, Liam O' Driscoll received a hand pass over his defenders head and sent the ball to the back of the net. O' Neills threatened more goals, but the Rovers keeper was in brilliant form and kept denying our forwards. Rovers responded almost immediately with a point. But O' Neills would have the last score of the half when Noel O' Driscoll who looked threatening throughout the half scored a point. This left the score at half time: O' Neills 1-05 : Rovers 1-05.

In the second half scores were at a premium, and it wasn't for the lack of trying it must be said either. Both sides racked up their fair share of wides, so anything that was scored was going to be crucial. The half would go 14 minutes without a score despite a plentiful supply of ball being sent in by Mark Hayes in particular, but it was O' Neills who opened with a point form Alan Hayes. Ten minutes later Rovers responded with a point of their own. Then crucially with 55 minutes gone the 'goal poacher' himself; Noel O' Driscoll popped up to score a goal. This prompted Rovers to go on all out attack. They bombarded the O' Neills goal, but due to good pressure from John Barry and Darren McCarthy, and solid goalkeeping from William Joyce no goal was conceded. Instead the Rovers scored two points in the 24 th and 28 th minutes, and in injury time Rovers drew level wit another point. It was desperation stuff from O' Neills at this stage, but O' Neills showed their true battling spirit and hurling skill and fought back. In the 3 rd minute of injury time Liam O' Driscoll (not happy with a point!) scored the vital goal to win the match for Fr. O' Neills. For the record the final score read: Fr. O' Neills 3-06 : Russell Rovers 1-08.

Representing the East Cork Board an elated Seamus Joyce, club Chairman, presented the cup to a very worthy Fr. O' Neills captain Tadhg McCarthy. Tadhg thanked the team mentors: Brian O' Callaghan, Noel O' Driscoll, William Broderick, and Liam Hyde for all their hard work during the year as well as all the parents who had helped to transport hem around the division all the year, and he also thanked Russell Rovers for a great and sporting game. It was then back to celebrate another great East Cork win in the club house in Aghavine (something which became a habit this year!!). Seamus Joyce congratulated the players on their victory, citing their dedication and skill for the victory, and also thanked the mentors for their efforts. He also thanked the 'ladies committee' for such a ready supply of food, and their generosity throughout the year. Well done to everyone concerned, another great victory for the club in what has been a very successful year.

Fr. O' Neills Team: William Joyce, John Barry, Irwin Lane, John Bailey, Darren McCarthy, Barry Hayes, Conor Broderick, Alan Hayes, Mark Hayes, Tadhg McCarthy, T.J Kenneally, Fergal Duffy, Tony Motherway, Noel O' Driscoll, Liam O' Driscoll.

Fé 11 'B' Hurling Final

Fr. O' Neills 6-04 : Castlelyons 1-01

This final was played in Ballynoe on Monday 25th September. O' Neills went into this game on the back of an undefeated run in the league, and were hoping to continue this in the final. O' Neills got off to a good start and opened the scoring with two pointed frees from Padraig McMahon and Joe Millerick respectively. But Castlelyons responded with a point, and further worry was caused to O' Neills when the Castlelyons full forward scored a goal to send them into the lead. This seemed to spark O' Neills into life, who played some excellent first time ground hurling into their forwards. With such a plentiful supply of the ball it was only a matter of time before O' Neills would capitalize. This they dually did, with a goal from Kevin 'Sully' O' Sullivan. This was added to further by a pointed Joe Millerick '65'. Kevin O' Sullivan scored his second goal of the game shortly before half time. Padriag McMahon concluded O' Neills scoring for the opening half with a point late into the half. This left the score at half time: O' Neills 2-04 : Castlelyons 1-01

With the game still in the balance O' Neills were keen to keep up the pressure, and with sterling displays in midfield from Joe Millerick and David O' Driscoll inspiring the rest of the team it wasn't long before O' Neills were adding to the score board once again. O' Neills opening score of the half came from one of the younger members of the team, a goal from Cillian Broderick. Mid way through the half Joe Millerick, and not for the first time this year, sent a long range dipping shot to the back of the net. O' Neills were not finished yet and late in the game the two Millerick brothers were to shine. Thomas was obviously keen to show us that not alone is he good at stopping goals hitting the back of the net, he is also able to send them into the opposition's net also! His brother Joe concluded O' Neills scoring with another goal.

Credit must go to the O' Neills defence who succeeded in keeping Castlelyons scoreless in the second half. Fair play to Castlelyons also who hurled sportingly and never gave up for the hour's hurling. Liam O' Brien, East Cork Juvenile Board Vice-Chairman, (who was excellent for the hour as referee) presented to the East Cork Shield to a delighted and well deserving O' Neills captain Padriag McMahon. Celebrations continued in the club house in Aghavine, where supporters and players were treated to a much welcomed cuppa and refreshments. Thanks to the 'Ladies Committee', it was very much appreciated. Well done to the team mentors for their continued untiring work with this group of players, an inspiration to us all in the club: Tom Millerick, Paddy McMahon, Matty Kenneally, who were ably assisted by Micheal Broderick, Pat O' Sullivan, and Sean Hennessy.

Fé 16 'A' Football Final:

Fr. O' Neills 1-14 : Glanmire 2-05

It's a tale of what might have been in this game, had O' Neills played as they did in the second half for the entire game then there would have been little to choose from between both sides. Played in a wet conditions in Lisgoold last Saturday O' Neills were under pressure from the start, with Glanmire settling much quicker. In an opening half in which Glanmire dominated, O' Neills were only able to register two points on the score board, while Glanmire went in satisfied at the break having scored 1-11.

But credit to the O' Neills lads they came out in the second half and battled hard and almost pulled of a Lazarus like comeback but were just short of catching Glanmire in the end.

Fr. O' Neills Team: David Hyde, Mike Pomphret, Michael Paul Bailey (capt), T J Kenneally, Barry Hayes, John O' Driscoll, Robert O' Donoghue, Robert Hyde, Niall Griffin, Alan Hayes, Gavin Foley, Fergal Duffy, Noel O' Driscoll, Mark Hayes, Conor Broderick.

Fé 13 'B' Football Final:

Fr. O' Neills 0-08 : Kiltha Og 5-10

This game was a tale of two half's really, with O' Neills competing well in the first half, but were over run in the 2 nd half by a very strong Kiltha Og team. The game started poorly for O' Neill with Kiltha Og scoring 1-04 in the opening thirteen minutes. Things were looking ominous at this stage, but all credit to O' Neills who faught back courageously. From the 15 th minute to the half time whistle O' Neills scored 5 un-answered points, with all but one of these being scored by Liam O' Driscoll, the other being scored by Mark O' Keefe. However O' Neills were unlucky not to go in at half time with the lead, having missed a penalty earlier in the half. Thescore at half time read O' Neills 0-05 Kiltha 1-04.

O' Neills started the second half in convincing fashion, with Liam O' Driscoll scoring the opening two points of the game. But this seemed to spark Kiltha to life, who then scored 2-04 without reply up until the 21 st minute. O' Neills responded with a point, but Kiltha kept on attacking, and despite the best efforts of Ken Hegarty and Gavin Sloane, and Rob Cullinane in defence, in the end they ran out comfortable winners. Others to shine on the night were Liam O' Driscoll and Tony Motherway.

Fr. O' Neills Team: Rob Cullinane, Eoin O' Neill, William Lane, Gavin Sloane, Ken Hegarty, Darren Mc Carthy, Adrian Keneally, Donogh O' Flynn, Tony Motherway, Mark O' Keefe, Liam O' Driscoll, Colm Ahern, Paudie McMahon, Joe Millerick, Tadhg Hennessy.

Subs: Shane Lee, Jack Barry, James Glennon, Kevin Sloane, Aaron Dunne.

Fé 14 'B' Football Semi-Final:

Fr. O' Neills 4-01 : Castlelyons 5-09

O' Neills started well in this game with a quickly taken free from Alan Hayes ending up in the back of the net after just four minutes. Castlelyons responded with a point, but O' neills went straight down the field from the kick out to score a point from Darren McCarthy. Castlelyons drew level in the 8 th minute with a well taken goal. This re-ignited O' Neills, and in the 10 th minute Sean Meridith followed in after a high ball to send it into the back of the net. Castlelyons were to finish strongly, scoring 1-02 in the second period of the 1 st half, it could have been more only for the efforts of Ken Hegarty and Gavin Hennessy. This left the score at half time as: O' Neills 2-01 : Castlelyons 3-02.

The second half was to be dominated by a strong Castlelyons team, who scored 1-02 in the opening minutes. O' Neills were thrown a life line in the 36 th minute when a breaking ball ended up in the net, and because Gavin Sloane was the last O' Neills player to touch the ball he is being awarded with the goal (by me anyway!). But Castlelyons kept on attacking and scored five points without reply. Then in the 46 th minute up stood Gavin LSoane once again who followed up on a breaking ball in the square to send it crashing into the back of the net. From this moment on O' Neills dominated the game but were unable to put any scores on the score board, Tony Motherway, Alan Hayes and John Bailey led the team well during this period. However Castlelyons were able to see out the game without conceding any scores and registered a point off their own in the closing minutes.

Fr. O' Neills Team: Rob Cullinane, Shane Dunne, Mark Harrington, Gavin Sloane, Ken Hegarty, John Barry, Donogh O' Flynn, Tony Motherway, John Bailey Darren McCarthy, Alan Hayes, Darragh Sexton, Sean Donnelly, Sean Merridith, Gavin Sloane.

Fé 13 'B' Football Semi-Final:

Fr. O' Neills 3-15 : Youghal 0-10

This was a powerful display of football by a team whose preparations were hampered by a cluttered fixture list. However despite these difficulties O' Neills battled well and more importantly showed good football skill.

Playing with a strong wind in the first half it was important that O' Neills put up a high score. They wasted little time in doing so, with a point from Liam O' Driscoll in the 4 th minute. This was followed by two further points by Liam in the 11 th and 16 th minutes. Youghal opened their scoring in the 14 th minute with a point. But O' Neills soon returned to dominate the game in the 17 th minute when a good pass from Paudie McMahon to Darragh Sexton set him up to score a well taken point. This was soon followed by a pointed free from Liam O' Driscoll. Youghal battled back and broke through the O' Neills defence in the 18 th minute to score their second point of the half.Colm Ahern scored his first point of the day in the 20 th minute to add to O' Neills lead. Throughout this period the O' Neills defence was raided a few times but on each occasion they stood up well and conceded no score in particular William Lane at full back, and Jack Barry in the corner.

Liam O' Driscoll continued to punish and frees given away by Youghal with yet another pointed free in the 23 rd minute. Finally after 24 minutes O' Neills scored the goal they had threatened the entire half, when a long kick form Ken Hegarty found Gavin Sloane outside the square, he then turned and buried the ball in the back of the net. Two further points in the closing minutes of the half from Liam O' Driscoll opened up the lead further. Then in the 30 th minute Liam O' Driscoll broke through the defence and sent the ball high into the top left corner, to leave the score at half time O' Neills 2-10 Yoghal 0-02.

Facing into the wind in the 2 nd half, O' Neills would face a stiffer challenge. But it was O' Neills who opened the scoring with a point form Gavin Sloane only minutes into the half. Youghal responded immediately with a point of their own, and the favour was returned quickly by O' Neills in return with a point from Paudie McMahon. It was end to end stuff and Youghal kept the sequence going with another point in the 35 th minute, and followed it up with another in the 36 th minute. Liam O' Driscoll kept O' Neills ticking over with a point in the 38 th minute. The game now turned in Youghal's favour, and for the next 10 minutes they enjoyed a period of total dominance scoring three unanswered points, and O' Neills were fortunate that goalkeeper Robert Cullinane was in such good form who denied Youghal any goals during this period. Ultimately it was O' Neills tight defence and good goalkeeper that secured victory in this half, they didn't allow Youghal any goals and limited their point scoring opportunities. In fact O' Neills dominated the closing period of the game, and this was capitalised on by Shane Lee who evaded the Youghal defence with a brilliant side step to send the ball to the back of the net in the 50 th minute. This was followed by a point by Liam O' Driscoll. Youghal to their credit never gave up and responded immediately with a point. Liam O' Driscoll concluded O' Neills scoring in the 58 th minute with a pointed free, this left him with a personal total of 1-11 for the day! Youghal responded with a point in the closing moments but it asnt enogh and O' Neills ran out winners on a score line of: O' Neills 3-15 : Youghal 0-10.

O' Neills now progress to the final of the competition. With the fixture not confirmed yet look out for posters and www.froneillsjuvgaa.com for information.

The Fr. O' Neills U 12 Hurling Story 2006.

The Fr. O' Neills U 12 hurlers created history on the 4 th August, when they won the first hurling County title for the Juvenile club. In action packed season that unfolded over four never to be forgotten months, this Fr. O' Neills team ensured that for the third year in a row a county title was brought back to the Fr. O' Neills club.

The East Cork Championship was played on a league championship basis, which ensured a long and very competitive campaign for our young hurlers. O' Neills progressed well through the league only loosing one match, which was their first game against near rivals Killeagh by a point. On the basis of their league position O' Neills were drawn at home against Castlelyons in the East Cork Quarter Final. O' Neills scored six goals on the night, with four of them coming from Mark O' Keefe. This trend of scoring many goals would continue throughout the championship campaign and ultimately would prove crucial. O' Neills won the game on a score line of Fr. O' Neills 6-05 : Castlelyons 4-07.

O' Neills then went on to play Watergrasshill in the semi-final, and in a very tight and frantic game O' Neills pulled through on a score line of O 'Neills 2-09 Watergrasshill 2-02, with Paudie McMahon scoring an impressive 1-04. Then it was on to the East Cork Final against near neighbours Killeagh. The game was played before a massive attendance in Castlemartyr in sunny conditions. The level of hurling skill exhibited by both sides ensured an enthralling game throughout. What was also evident was the level of commitment in this team, with three players putting their holidays to one side and coming home to play in the final, credit must go to the parents involved also for the sacrifices they made. With the score at half time O' Neills 4-01 Killeagh 0-03. However Killeagh rallied early in the second half scoring a goal and a point. But this O' Neills team were not in the mood to be over taken and tightened up in defence considerably and with Joe Millerick leading the attack O' Neills were crowned champions on a score line of: O' Neills 7-04 Killeagh 1-05 but this was to be O' Neills day. Mike O' Brien, Chairman of the East Cork Juvenile Board, commented on the high level of skill shown by both teams, and presented the cup to their outstanding team captain Kenneth Hegarty. Ken then gave a very well prepared speech with a little help from his teammates in which he thanked all of the parents and in particular their mentors. This was the first time in 30 years that the Fr. O' Neills club had won the East Cork U12 'B' East Cork title, with one of the current mentors playing on that team!!

With the Easy Cork won, any further success was seen as a bonus, so O' Neills entered the County campaign with no pressure or fear of loosing. This was clearly evident in the Quarter Final of the County Championship , when O' Neills overcame the challenge of Aghabolouge on a score line of: O' Neills 8-12 : Aghabolouge 1-02. O' Neills then went into the semi-final of the County against a strong Kanturk outfit and with O' Neills now coming up against teams with more than twelve players on the age it was getting tougher and tougher, coincidently O' Neills only had seven players on the age, which is proves testament to the skill and work rate of this young team. O' Neills battled through against Kanturk on a score line of O' Neills 7-07 : Kanturk 5-03.

O' Neills were now in the County Final against Mill Rovers, and excitement levels were increased somewhat with the news that the game would be played in Pairc Ui Rinn, this indeed was the biggest occasion in these young hurlers careers. The game proved to be heart stopping stuff. O' Neills went in at half time with only a one point lead having played with a very strong wing and also having squandered a few chances. However in the opening period of the second half O' Neills extended the lead to four points. But Mill Rovers responded with a goal and two points. With seven minutes to go O' Neills were a point down, and could not seem to be able to manufacture a score. It took until the third minute of injury time for Joe Millerick to send the ball over the bar and ensured O' Neills would have another big day out. The replay was played in Kilworth in front of a massive crowd, and the sizeable O' Neills contingent would not be disappointed. O' Neills weathered the storm that was the Mill Rovers onslaught in the opening quarter of the half, and by the end of the half O' Neills 1-02 : Mill Rovers 0-02. in the second half O' Neills battened down the hatches with excellent defending and an attack that capitalized on all the opportunities that came their way, Shane Lee was in particular good form coming out of the game with a hat trick of goals, and just as in the East Cork Final Joe Millerick scored the final point in the last minute of injury time. There were scenes of great jubilation among young and old at the full time whistle.

The County cup was presented by Chairman of the County Juvenile Board Tony O' Mahony to a well deserving captain Ken Hegarty. In a well prepared speech Ken thanked the 'seven experts' who looked after them all year: Tom Millerick, Paddy McMahon, Mattie Keneally, Michael Hegarty, Ger Lee, Paudie Sexton, and Dick O' Neill. He also made special mention of Juvenile Club President Dick Lane for all the help and advice he had given the team since they first started hurling. It was then back to the club house in Aghavine for some well earned refreshments. The team then went back to the club house where the 'ladies committee' had prepared a feast for which we were all very thankful. Club Chairman Seamus Joyce then made a speech in which he complimented the players, and in particular commenting on their skill and commitment to the club stating that it was hard enough to win an East Cork title but that to win a County Title was something very special. He also thanked the mentors for their tireless efforts with these players all year. Te mentors commented that the success was down to the players great efforts in training and their enthusiastic and disciplined behaviour.

The season had commenced on the 1 st of May concluded on the 4 th August, with O' Neills having scored in championship hurling: 35 goals and 47 points, and conceded 14 goals and 33 points, and as the stats prove the goals were the deciding factor. And so ends an historic campaign for this team, a season that will no doubt live long in the memory of young and old.

Fé 12 'B' County Hurling Final:

Fr. O' Neills 4-04 : Mill Rovers 0-08

History for the second time in our clubs history (if that makes sense) was made in Kilworth last Friday with our first hurling County title being won, and only our second County title ever, the first being won in Kilworth also two years ago!. As our club President Dick Lane said the club in both adult and juvenile levels has never experienced such a period of success. But success was achieved by an exceptional bunch of hurlers with a never say die attitude that is hard to create in adult teams not to mind juveniles. This never say die attitude, that has been present all year, has obviously been recognised by the parish, who turned out in huge numbers to support the lads.

The game started off as the drawn game had done, with Mill Rovers opening the scoring with a point inside the first minute. The game then went through a particularly dogged period where Mill Rovers laid siege to the O' Neills defence. But the defence was not in the mood to crack, with Eoin O' Neill and Adrian Kenealy clearing their lines effectively in the opening quarter, and Thomas Millerick showing us what a cool customer and brilliant keeper he is. The siege was lifted in the 19 th minute by a brilliant over head strike from Mark O' Keefe that sailed over the bar. O' Neills were beginning to find their footing during this period and can count themselves unlucky not to have put more scores on the board. However in the 23 rd minute O' Neills finally made their dominance count when a long range free from Joe Millerick, not for the first time this season, landed under the crossbar for a goal. Mill Rovers responded in the 32 nd minute with a point to leave the score at half time: O' Neills 1-02 - Rovers 0-02.

Mill Rovers started the second half with blistering pace, and within the first four minutes had scored three unanswered points. But O' Neills, as they have done all year, never panicked. This composure was shown in the 37 th minute when O' Neills battled back with a goal from corner forward Shane Lee. Then in the 38 th minute just to show that the first goal wasn't just a fluke, Shane Lee had the ball in the back of the net once again. But credit to a gallant Mill Rovers side that never gave up, who battled back in the 47 th and 19 th minutes to score two points. But O' Neills were not to be stopped, and either was Shane Lee who completed his 'hat trick' of goals in the 50 th minute. This was then followed by a point from Darragh Sexton in the 55 th minute. Mill Rovers began a fight back straight away with a point. The rovers were now throwing everything into attack, putting their goal keeper into full forward and throwing caution to the wind. However O' Neills defended heroically with Ken Hegarty and Ger O' Connell in particular shining with their motto of the day being obviously 'thou shall not pass'!. Fittingly it was Joe Millerick concluded the scoring in the last minute of injury time with a point that left the score as O' Neills 4-04 : Mill Rovers 0-08.

Then it was time for the customary photographs, the hiring of publicity agents for the players might be a god idea, due to the amount of cameramen and camera women demanding the players attention. It was then back to the club house in Aghavine for some well earned refreshments. Thanks to all the ladies that kept us supplied with tea and sandwiches. Special mention for Mary O' Connell who baked a cake in the shape of a GAA field to commemorate the occasion, the quality was apparent as it didn't last that long! Surely we can all agree with these sentiments. Well done to everyone concerned, County Champions !!

Fé 12 'B' Hurling County Final:

Fr. O' Neills 1-06 : Mill Rovers 1-06

It was heart stopping stuff in Pairc Ui Rinn in front of a massive crowd last Saturday. O' Neills seemed to be going well when they went four points up in the second half and then found themselves a point down late on, only to rescue it in the 3 rd minute of injury time!. This game was a tight and tense affair throughout, with little space which resulted in a low scoring game.

Playing with the wind in the first half O' Neills got off to a disastrous start conceding two points in the two opening minutes. Mill Rovers were well on top, with O' Neills finding it hard to settle. O' Neills could have been further behind had it not been for the ever dependable Thomas Millerick in goals, who pulled off a great save to deny Mill Rovers a crucial goal. O' Neills eventually got into the game winning primary possession in the half forward line which resulted in more scoring chances for our forwards. In the 10 th minute Shane Lee got O' Neills first score of the game with a well taken point. O' Neills were now on top using the wind to their advantage and can count themselves unlucky that they did not get a point during this period. Paudie McMahon showed us all what a fine hurler he is when he scored a brilliant point in the 16 th minute. O' Neills battled hard for the rest of the half with Darragh Sexton leading in midfield well. Then in the 26 th minute a super long range point from Kenneth Hegarty gave O' Neills the lead going in at half time. The score at half time was O' Neills 0-03 : Mill Rovers 0-02.

Things looked ominous at the start of the second half, with a strong wind at their backs Mill Rovers scored a long range point with only four minutes gone. O' Neills fought back in their typical battling style and defended heroically in particular William Lane , Kenneth Hegarty, and Mark O' Keefe thwarted many attacks. In the 42 nd minute David O' Driscoll went through on goal to send the ball over the bar. This was soon followed by a goal from Kevin Sloane, which sent the crowd and the bench wild (including myself, nearly dropping the webmaster's valuable digi camera!!). O' Neills were now up by four points and things were looking good. Mill Rovers quickly responded with a point in the 44 th minute. Then Joe Millerick restored the four point lead in the 49 th minute and we were looking good again, then a disaster that can only be described in apocalyptical terms occurred, from the 21 st to the 23 rd minute Mill Rovers scored a goal and two points. This left O' Neills a point behind with seven minutes to go, the lads seemed to be out on their feet, but they continued to battle on. It was now end to end stuff, with neither side able to take their chances. The clock continued to tick away, and then I looked at the watch and it said we were into injury time!

Now, at this stage it didn't look good, Mill Rovers were after throwing everything into defending and O' Neills had thrown everything into attack, but it didn't seem as if the score was coming. And we could have been forgiven for thinking it was all over. Oh but we of little faith, we should have known better, and having watched this team never once give up all year I should have known better! It is never over with these lads. I turned to someone in the crowd to tell them we were in the 3 rd minute of injury time, I turned back to the play and there was Kevin O' Sullivan going for a shot on goal, blocked. It falls to Paudie McMahon, shot, blocked. It breaks to the wing and to Joe Millerick, if ever there was a case of 'cometh the hour (and 3 minutes), cometh the man' - then this was it. Joe takes the shot and sends the ball over the bar. The ref blows the whistle and it's a draw!

I think everyone agreed that a draw was a fair result, and looking at some of the selectors afterwards, the game seemed to have taken as much out of them as it did on the players. Well done to the lads on a spirited comeback, we wish them and their mentors the best of luck in the replay. News of the fixture is not known as we go to print, but check out posters and the website for up-to-date news. Photos of the County Final are posted on the website www.froneillsjuvgaa.com.

Fé-16 'B' Hurling Championship:

Fr. O' Neills 2-11 : Erins Own 2-12

If the Fé 12 game was 'heart stopping' then this was 'heartbreaking'. A fantastic hour's hurling that was played last Monday in Cloyne. O' Neills went into this game as underdogs but by the end they proved to us all what good hurlers they are when they put their minds to it.

However it did not look promising in the opening minutes of the match, when Erins Own went two points to nil up inside the first 3 minutes. O' Neills registered their first score of the day with a point from Tommy Lawton in the 6 th minute. But Erins Own were dominating in the opening exchanges and scored points in the 9 th and 11 th minutes. Noel O' Driscoll kept O' Neills in the game with a point in the 14 th . But Erins Own were to respond again with a goal and a point in the 16 th and 17 th minute. This seemed to spark O' Neills to life with the lads scoring three un-answered points in the 19 th , 20 th , and 24 th minutes, from David Hyde, Tommy Lawton, and Mark Hayes respectively. It was hectic stuff at this stage with some great hard hurling being played. Erins Own responded with a point in the 24 th minute. But O' Neills period of dominance was not over yet, and in the 25 th minute a massive clearance from Mike Pomphrett landed inside the '21', Mark Hayes flicked it past the keeper. The sides were now level and things were looking even better when Tommy Lawton scored a point a minute later. But Erins Own fought back with a goal in the 28 th minute. However O' Neills were not going to give up and finished strongly with points from William Joyce, and more importantly a goal in the 30 th minute from David Hyde. This left the score at half time as O' Neills 2-08 : Erins Own 2-06.

O' Neills faced into a stiff breeze in the second half with a slender lead of two points. Despite this they started well with Tommy Lawton opening the half's scoring in the 3 rd minutes. It didn't take Erins Own long to capitalise on the strong wind at their backs scoring three un-answered points in the 4 th , 8 th and 16 th minutes. However it could have been a lot worse had it not been for brilliant defending by Barry Hayes and Michael Paul Bailey in particular, who did the simple things right and kept the ball in front of them at all times. This gave Erins Own a one point lead, but O' Neills were to draw level in the 18 th minute with a point from Tommy Lawton in the 18 th minute. O' Neills can count themselves unlucky that they did not score a goal during this period, but the Erins Own goalkeeper proved impenetrable. Ultimately O' Neills inability to get that goal would cost them, as Erins Own scored two further points in the 24 th and 27 th minutes to give them a two point lead. But credit to the O' Neills lads they hurled on bravely, and when Tommy Lawton scored his 7 th point of the day with a minute to go, so we were set up for a 'grand finale'. Sadly it was not to be, as the Erins Own defence proved too dogged to break down for that much needed point. Commiserations to our lads and their mentors, however they can take a lot of positives from this game.

Scorers for Fr O' Neills: Tommy Lawton 0-07, Mark Hayes 1-01, David Hyde1-01, Noel O' Driscoll, William Joyce 0-01.

Fr O' Neills : Alan Hayes, Connor Broderick, Michael Paul Bailey, Mike Pomphrett, Robert O' Donoghue, John O' Driscoll, Barry Hayes, Niall Griffin, Robert Hyde, Tony Sloane, Thomas Lawton, William Joyce, Mark Hayes, David Hyde, Noel O' Driscoll.

Fé-12 'B' Hurling County Semi-Final:

Fr. O' Neills 7-07 : Kanturk 5-03

There were great scenes of jubilation in Kilworth last Sunday evening, as our Fé-12 hurlers march on to the County final. Facing a physically strong Kanturk side, this game was never going to be an easy one to win, but O' Neills battled bravely and came out oin the victorious side.

Kanturk got off to a dream start with a goal with 2 minutes gone. However O' Neills did not let Kanturk build on this score, and went back up the field to score a point in the 4 th minute from Joe Millerick. What was to follow was extraordinary with O' Neills stamping their authority firmly on the game with three goals in a row from Mark O' Keefe, Kevin Sloane, and Paudie McMahon in the 6 th , 9 th and 15 th minutes respectively. This was a major boost to O' Neills after such a bad start, and put them in a commanding position. But Kanturk responded in kind with a goal of their own in the 16 th minute. Joe Millerick countered this with a pointed free in the 20 th minute. It was turning into a real battle now, and Kanturk responding with a point in the 22 nd minute. With both teams going score for score now, James Glennon didn't disappoint when in the 24 th minute he sent the ball over the bar. Kanturk responded once again with a goal in the 29 th minute, to bring them right back into the game. This left the score going in at half time as O' Neills 3-04 : Kanturk 3-01.

O' Neills settled quickly in the second half with a goal coming from Joe Millerick in the 33 rd minute. Kanturk responded almost immediately with a point, and then a goal in the 38 th minute. This pumped up the pressure on the O' Neills lads, but as we have seen many times in the past this team thrives under pressure, with Kenneth Hegarty and Joe Millerick scoring points in the 40 th and 47 th minutes. And then the telling scores came in the 49 th minute with two goals coming from Paudie McMahon and Kevin Sloane. Kanturk responded gallantly with a goal in the 52 nd minute, but as was the way throughout the match O' Neiils matched Kanturk's scores with scores of their own, with a point from Joe Millerick in the 54 th minute. Kanturk registered the final score of the game in the 1 st minute of injury time with a point.

O' Neills march on to the County Final after a battling display in Kilworth. Well done to everyone concerned, you have done the club proud in the County, and we wish you all the best of luck in the final. I'm sure the parish will be decked out in all its red and green glory for County Final week, and we would encourage everyone to travel to the final to support the lads. With the fixture not known as this goes to print look out for posters and the website for news of the fixture. KEEP THE FAITH.

Fé 12 'B' Hurling County Championship:

Fr. O' Neills 8-12 : Aghabolouge 1-02

O' Neills led from the start in this very one sided game, played in sun drenched Aghavine last Saturday. Padraig Mc Mahon opened the scoring in the 6 th minute with a goal, which was soon followed with a point from Joe Millerick. O' Neills had the ball in the back of the net in the 10 th minute with a goal from Shane Lee. Mark O 'Keefe was next to register on the score sheet with another goal in the 16 th minute. However O' Neills were not finished with scoring goals yet, and in the 19 th minute Kevin O' Sullivan had the ball in the back of the net. O' Neills carried on their scoring ways with a point from Joe Millerick in the 21 st minute. Aghabolouge registered their first score of the game in the 23 rd minute with a pointed free. Any hopes that this would spark a revival for them were dampened when in the 24th minute Joe Millerick was set up by a brilliant pass from Kevin O' Sullivan, to put the ball over the bar. Shane Lee and Padraig McMahon concluded the scoring in this half with points in the 25 th and 31 st minutes respectively. This left the score at half time at O' Neills 4-05 Aghabolouge 0-01.

O' Neills continued where they left off in the first half, with a point from Joe Millerick in the 1 st minute. Padriag McMahon quickly followed with a point in the 4 th minute. Joe Millerick tapped over another point in the 6 th minute. Aghabolouge began to show us some of the hurling they were able to play in the 10 th minute when they scored a goal. They followed this up with a point. The O' Neills defence tightened up after this with strong performances from Ger O' Connell, David O' Driscoll and Ken Hegarty in particular. However O' Neills went straight back down the field with Mark O' Keefe scoring a goal from a spectacular over-head strike. Kevin O' Sullivan followed this up with another goal. Points from Joe Millerick, Kevin O' Sullivan, and Padraig McMahon in the 19 th , 20 th , and 23 rd minutes respectively further increased O' Neills lead. Mark O' Keefe got a goal in the 25 th minute. Padraig McMahon completed a good display from him with a point in the 26 th minute. Shane Lee completed O' Neills scoring for the day when he followed up Shane Beausang's shot on goal to put the ball in the back of the net.

This was a good display from O' Neills, who now progress to the semi-final of the County. See posters for details of match.

Fé-12 'B' Hurling Championship Final:

Fr. O' Neills 7-04 - Killeagh 1-05

This game was played last Sunday before a massive attendance in Castlemartyr. Though the score might not suggest it, this was as close and tough a game as you are ever likely to witness at Fé-12 level. The level of hurling skill exhibited by both sides ensured an enthralling game throughout.

The game started off at a ferocious pace with both teams trying to settle quickly. It was O' Neills that started the scoring with a well taken goal from Shane Lee in the 5 th minute. Killeagh fought back almost immediately with a point from a '65'. Joe Millerick was next on the score sheet with a goal from a long range free in the 13 th minute. However Killeagh came back again and scored a point in the 15 th minute. For the next fifteen minutes O' Neills dominated the game, with the O' Neills defense playing very tightly. Ken Hegarty, David O' Driscoll, and Ger O' Connell were outstanding and cleared their lines very effectively.

This dominance in defense ensured plenty of ball was delivered to the forwards, and the O' Neills attack wasted little time in capitalizing on this with Kevin Sloane and Kevin O' Sullivan ensuring the ball was played through into the inside forwards. Paudie McMahon showed us all his skill when he got a fantastic point way out in the left wing with 19 minutes gone. Joe Millerick scored another goal in the 26 th minute from another placed ball. Then in the 31 st minute, the 'goal poacher supreme' who came home from his holidays early for the game, got a bullet of a goal. O' Neills seemed to be coasting at this stage, however in the 2 nd minute of injury time Killeagh got a well taken point. This left O' Neills leading at half time on a score line of 4-01 to 0-03.

O' Neills started the second half as they did in the first, with a goal in the 5 th minute, this time from Ken Hegarty. However Killeagh answered in the 8 th minute with a point and came right back into the game in the 12 th minute with a goal. This livened the game up even more, if that was possible! The crowd reacted in a way not seen much at juvenile level, and roared the O' Neills lads on to fight back. This they did, with Shane Lee showing all his skill and trickery to register a goal in the 16 th minute. Shane scored a point in the 18 th minute when he was expertly set up by James Glennon, who had a great game in full forward throughout the hour.

Throughout this half Joe Millerick led both the defense and attack heroically and delivered a wealth of ball into the O' Neills attack. His partner in midfield Darragh Sexton, another fella that cut his holidays short to play in this game!, was on top of his game as well, taking on his opponents in midfield every chance he got and scored a brilliant point in the 23 rd minute. David O' Driscoll was moved up to the forwards during and along with James Glennon, they both proved to be a thorn in the side of the Killeagh defence.

Throughout this period Killeagh never gave up, and but for three super saves from Tom Millerick in goal Killeagh would have been a lot closer. The O' Neills defense were defiant in the second half however and were determined the no ball would pass them, in particular Adrian Keneally, Daniel Harrington, and Eoin O' Neill (showing that there is another O' Neill full back on the rise in the club!!) had great second half performances. Killeagh managed to break through in the 26 th minute to score a point. However O' Neills were not to be stopped, and a goal from Kenneth Hegarty in the 28 th minute settled the game. The final score came in injury time when who else, but Joe Millerick scored the final point. To leave the score 7-04 : 1-05 in the O' Neills favor.

Brian Walsh blew the whistle in the 32 nd minute, cue mass scenes of celebration and jubilation from both young and old!! It was good to see so many of our Intermediate hurlers present and congratulating the Fé 12's afterwards, although many looked as though they were worried about holding their positions on the team in future years!!! Mike O' Brien, Chairman of the East Cork Juvenile Board, commented on the high level of skill shown by both teams, and presented the cup to their outstanding team captain Kenneth Hegarty. Ken then gave a very well prepared speech with a little help from his teammates. He thanked all their mentors: Tom Millerick, Paddy Mc Mahon, Ger Lee, Dick O' Neill, Paudie Sexton, Matty Keneally and Michael Hegarty for their massive efforts throughout the year . It was back to the hall in Aghavine for refreshments and celebrations, thanks to everyone who helped out.

Throughout the year this team has been the shining light in the club and one that we should all be proud of, and attempt to reach the standards they have set. And its not over yet, the lads now go on to play in the County, they have a home draw and the game will be played on the 15 th of July in Aghavine.

Well done to everyone involved, Champions, and hero's all!!!

Scorers for Fr O' Neills : Joe Millerick 2-01 , Kenneth Hegarty 2-00,Shane Lee 1-01, Mark O' Keefe 1-00, Darragh Sexton 0-01, Padraig McMahon 0-01.

Fé 12 Hurling Championship Semi Final: Fr O' Neills 2-09 : Watergrasshill 2-02

I didn't get to watch the whole of this game, but the reports back were very good. O' Neills hurled well from the start, and never let 'The Hill' settle. O' Neills went in at half time with a comfortable lead of 2-05 to 1-00. The second half proved to be a much closer contest, but O' Neills battled through to win on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-02.

Fé 12 Hurling Championship:

Fr O' Neills 6-05 : Castlelyons 4-06

This game was played last Wednesday in fantastic conditions in Aghavine before a large attendance. O' Neills went into this game on the back of a good run of form and were eager to continue their winning ways and progress to the semi-final of the Championship.

However they were up against a very good Castlelyons team that wasted no time in showing us their strength when they opened the scoring in the 3 rd minute. Despite playing against the wind, O' Neills stormed back into the game with a point in the 13 th minute from a Joe Millerick '65'. Mark O' Keefe continued his goal scoring record in Aghavine with two well taken goals in the 16 th and 18 th minute that put O' Neills in a good position and reflected the period of dominance they had during this period. The O' Neills defence coped very well with what Castlelyons threw at them during this period, especially Eoin O' Neill, Adrian Kenealy, and Kenneth Hegarty. Castleylyons responded in the 21 st minute with a point. But O' Neills were not to be stopped during this period with goals from Darragh Sexton, and Mark O' Keefe to complete his hat trick in the last five minutes of the half. However Castlelyons threw themselves a lifeline with a goal in injury time. This left the score at 4-01 to 1-02.

O' Neills started the second half at a blistering pace with a long range point from Shane Lee in the opening minute. This was quickly followed by a Padraig Mc Mahon point. Castlelyons opened their account for the half with a point in the 5 th minute. But O' Neills continued as they had started with two more quick-fire points from Joe Millerick and Padraig Mc Mahon in the 8 th minute. This was hectic stuff and it looked like O' Neills might pull away, but credit Castlelyons they fought back with a goal in the 10 th minute. Then in the 18 th minute William Lane got a great goal from an overhead strike in front of the goals. But again Castlelyons were not going to give up, and scored a goal and a point in the 19 th and 21 st minute respectively. Then up stood Mark O' Keefe who delivered another goal when it was needed after the previous Castlelyons comeback.

O' Neills were now 10 points ahead with five minutes to go and we all thought it was over, but nobody told Castlelyons the script. They fought back once more to score a goal and two points in the concluding minutes. But O' Neills defended with everything they had, and in the end their work rate and skill endured victory for Fr O' Neills. Well done to our lads who hurled themselves to the ground to ensure victory. O'Neills will have a home Semi-Final against the winners of the Watergrasshill v St.Catherine's Quarter-Final.

Scorers for Fr O' Neills: Mark O' Keefe 4-00, William Lane , Darragh Sexton 1-00 each, Joe Millerick, Padraig Mc Mahon 0-02 each, Shane Lee 0-01.

Fr. O' Neills Team: Thomas Millerick, Gerard O' Connell, Eoin O' Neill, Adrian Keneally, Kevin O' Sullivan, Kenneth Hegearty, David O' Driscoll, Darragh Sexton, Joe Millerick, Padraig McMahon, Kevin Sloane, Mark O' Keefe, James Glennon, William Lane, Shane Lee. Sub: Jordan Hennessy.
